I just checked Kadir Nelson's website again, now it's mentioned in the What's New section but when you click it you're redirected to michaeljackson.com which has as it's background the Immortal Cirque du Soleil artwork! Why isn't Kadir himself saying anything about this work? (Confidentiality agreement?). Considering it's being discussed all over the place he doesn't seem too keen on promoting himself or capitalising on all the interest in him.

Well, this certainly adds a new twist! I wish the edges weren't so blurry. Piece-by-piece, huh......it looks as if that is truly how it is being laid out here!!!!

I have been wondering that same thing as well. I have also been wondering why the newly released cover (inside flaps) looks so grainy as compared to the crystal clear version of the front?

I see a difference. Look at the camera to the right of Michael as you look at it. It's bigger on the second version. And Michael with his arms out-stretched to the right, also looks different as his arms aren't raised as high on the first on.

It could well be, at first I thought golden dagger but I think your idea is better! ;) The area to the right of that really intrigues me, the picture's a bit grainy but there are things in flames, including what looks like money/articles with MJ on it, I'd love to know who the people are protected by the angel wings too. The This Is It section speaks to me, the silhouette behind O2 MJ might represent the double as it's in shadow, and the O2 MJ is contained within it and I think many of us think that was indeed a double at the press conference. The way the silhouette's arm is pointing at the golden MJ statue seems significant. I also noticed the MLK differences others noticed. Something very weird is going on (as if we didn't know). :shock:

If they counted Joh'Vonnie, there would be 4 girls. But there is just rebbie, latoya and janet. So who's the 7th boy pictured? Brandon? How sick would that be as he died at birth....?

this album is the most detailed and symbolic yet confusing album cover i have ever seen in my life. it is too Michael Jackson for it to be just a graphic artist who designed this. clearly Michael was sitting there when this cover art was being made. it's impossible for that not to happen. does anybody have an idea when this album cover was made? it is just typical Michael and fantastic. wow and i thought the Dangerous cover was complicated :shock: . i love it anyways! :D

Guys, I was doing some researched while looking at the beautiful artwork that was done for the album. I think someone on this forum, it was stated that Tatum O'Neal was by Katherine. The lady next to Katherine is Jane Fonda. And yes Michael met her in the 1970's and they are friends. And you know that she is linked to Ted Turner(TV Mogul). Tatum is at the bottom underneath Janet Jackson. Also is you would take a look to the right of Janet, it looks like her hair is covering the face of someone. If I am not mistaken that profile belong to no other than Mac. And to the far right of the artwork, you will see I guess you can call it The Tree of Life. Do you guess remembered that it was stated that Michael grew up as a Jehovah Witness, well it was stated that in the beginning that there was a tree, The Three of Good and Bad and Eve was seduced by the serpent in the tree. If you look very closely you will see the serpent(snake) in the tree. Guys we should also examine very closely the left side of the artwork as well. If you notice, it shows Quincy Jones, O'Jays, Smokey Robinson, Berry Gordon, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, Sammy Davis Jr, James Brown and many more Motown Family. I think that there are a couple more influential people that is in this artwork. I think that we should try and get the names of all the people that are show in this artwork. Right up at the top of the Motown Family, there are couple of people that many be influential in the history of the world. The faces look very familiar but cannot place the names. I know some of you guys are very dam good researchers and will find out who they are.

I still don't understand why the crown isn't on MJ's head. Why does it look as if the crown is about to be placed or is being removed? Michael Jackson will forever be the undisputed King of Pop and why that is not clearly depicted is baffling to me. I know that in whatever the promo is where all the pieces in the mural move, the crown is then placed, but those moving pieces aren't the images we're saturated with. We're focused and most familiar with the still image of the cover. MJ earned that crown, dammit. I'm very disturbed by this. Does anyone have any idea why his crown is situated this way? :x

I imagined it to be the re-crowning of the King. He's coming back to reclaim what's his. The center picture looks kind of sinister, and I say that with the utmost respect of course. He's claiming his crown and putting his foot down.

@backstager: thanks. That's a good interpretation, which I can work with. And, it would have to be something like this to even consider the image used for the album cover. If true, Michael is in control and directed the cover as he did the artwork for Dangerous. Therefore, it signals to me that Sony does not have the final word and they will not be a part of Michael's future work. That gives this entire project a different meaning to me.

Yes, it very well could imply the recrowning of the king (which I tend to personally believe).....but I also think it is portrayed in this fashion (elevated in the air) to first and foremost emhasize "Michael" the man, as stressed in the simplicity of the album title "Michael".

Hi SoldierofLOVE! Here is a video of the artist that created the album cover saying that Michael is being crowned by two cupids. He doesn't go into detail about being re-crowned or anything, but he is definitely not being de-throned. The video is only 1 minute long if you want to check it out. I think it may just be depicting the moment in time that he became the King Of Pop?

I too was wondering why Liz wasn't on the cover, after all her and Mike were so close. Maybe she objected or she didn't give permission for her image to be used on the album cover??? .Is Karen Faye on the cover - i haven't looked that close yet - lol?

I too was wondering why Liz wasn't on the cover, after all her and Mike were so close. Maybe she objected or she didn't give permission for her image to be used on the album cover??? .Is Karen Faye on the cover - i haven't looked that close yet - lol?
Aphrodite Jones wrote in her newest blog that there were several women who had been approached to be included in the cover and turned it down: Liz Taylor, Madonna, Oprah, and Debbie Rowe.
