he better win. he's better than all those guys put together times 10. yes, they are all very talented. but how do you compare michael's music and his attributions to music to them? hell, he's probably the reason why they're even THERE.

YES!  He'd better win!  Given how many unreleased songs Michael has, I can easily see him winning a Grammy every year till 2100.   :D  ;)  Wouldn't that be something?
2011: Grammy for "This Is It"
2012: Grammy for "Much Too Soon"
2013: Grammy for [TBA]

2100: Grammy for [TBA] (MJ's grand-grandchildren accept award)

I find it strange that they would put TII with best vocal performance, not because Michael can't sing (because we all know we can), but rather because he was saving his voice and it definitely wasn't at its full potential.

The letter thing is pretty interesting, though. Does anyone know the date of the Grammys? If it's before or after "Dr." Conrad Murrays hearing?

It would be exciting if the Grammy's became the BAMmy's but I still think that would be too soon.  It's possible too that the whole idea of it being too soon could be a ruse in itself.  Wouldn't that be something if Michael personally accepted his 14th grammy award!

Well, we don't know if Michael will win. :? Of course I think TII was better than all of those, by far. But Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars is a very popular song. (I don't think the rest have a chance, though)

Wasn't this song "found" after Michael "died"?  We have never heard him sing it live, correct?  The recordings we hear on the This Is It soundtrack are two different ones, correct?  Which one is nominated? From what I understand, this song was never to be included with the O2 concerts.  It was only after Michael passed, that it came into light and became the cornerstone for the movie and soundtrack.....lucky break in the title ;)
Don't get me wrong, I really like the song....always have.
It speaks volumes to me.  I have never believed the song was just found randomly.  What are the odds?......TS, help a poor girl out, LOL.
I am thrilled beyond belief he is nominated for this song.  I tried to find information on the the nomination process for dates and when a song is released.  Anyone know exactly by when a song needs to be released in order to qualify for that year's nominations?  In February 2011, they are giving awards for late 2009 work.....is this correct?  Just curious.....I should have been a cat!
Go Michael, Go!

Blessings Always!

Good question!!

According to this -

http://www.answers.com/topic/grammy (http://www.answers.com/topic/grammy)

Nomination process

The eligibility period for the 2011 Grammy Awards is September 1, 2009 to September 30, 2010.  (This is It was released in October, 2009 so it is technically eligible.)

Record companies and individuals may submit recordings to be nominated. The entries are entered online and then a physical copy of the product must be sent to the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Once a work is entered, reviewing sessions are held by over 150 experts from the recording industry. This is done only to determine whether or not a work is eligible or entered into the proper category for official nomination.

The resulting list is circulated to all NARAS members, each of whom may vote to nominate in the general field (Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist) and in no more than nine out of 30 other fields on their ballots. The five recordings that earn the most votes in each category become the nominees. There may be more than five nominees if there is a tie in the nomination process.

After nominees have been determined, final voting ballots are sent to Recording Academy members. They may then vote in the general fields and in no more than eight of the 30 fields. NARAS members are encouraged, but not required, to vote only in their fields of expertise. Ballots are tabulated secretly by the major independent accounting firm Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. Following the tabulation of votes the winners are announced at the Grammy Awards. The recording with the most votes in a category wins and it is possible to have a tie. Winners are presented with the Grammy Award and those who do not win are given a medal for their nomination.

In both voting rounds, Academy members are to vote based upon quality alone. They are not supposed to be influenced by sales, chart performance, personal friendships, regional preferences or company loyalty. The acceptance of gifts is prohibited. Members are urged to vote in a manner that preserves the integrity of the academy.

It's cool that it would be his 14th! I think he has it in the bag, because today on the radio they said MJ was easily the highest selling artist of this year, outselling Lady Gaga and some others (can't remember the names) combined. And they haven't even started selling the MJ game, DVD and CD for Christmas. I went, "Yeah Michael" at work. At the store I was looking through the new Guinness World World Book, and it said Michael was the most famous man on the planet.  :o    :D

On the This Is It song being sung way back, but pulled out now for the TII movie doc, what are the chances he just randomly co-wrote this song with Paul Anka, but now we know the significance, numerology, connection to Elvis' This Is It, and on and on. I think he somehow knew then and planned ahead. Then it makes me wonder how many other songs has he pre-recorded for future stages and parts of his hoax, up to BAM, I'm thinking the latest in 2012.

I also just want to mention that when I was looking at the books, there was a young mom with two boys about 5 & 7. She showed them a big book with MJ's Thriller face on the front, and they got all excited, "Michael Jackson". So I asked if they were fans and she said, "Oh yeah". I told her about the WII and CD coming out and she thought that was great. But when I asked her if she believed he was alive, she looked very shocked, and said that of course he was dead, and that it would be very, very sad if he would do something like that. She added that it would be aweful. She said, "He's dead" like she was convinced, so I just left it, but wondered about the way people think, that they'd rather he was dead. I guess they think it would be mean of him to fool kids and fans just to get attention and make more money. Makes me wonder at the world's reaction when Michael BAMs. :(  :?

Michael is gorgeous, I mean GORGEOUS!

Same here! I know I'm very old (well, older than MJ!) and so not up to date with current pop music, but the only one I've heard of is Michael Buble and I thought he was opera not pop!!

Seems kind of strange if a song's release date, rather than recording date, is the criteria for acceptance. As others have said, seems like MJ has it in the bag forever!

Adam Lambert stayed on the charts forever this past year and his videos were everywhere. AI runners up have usually gained more stardom than the actual winners except for Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. I want Michael to win but expect some possible heat from Adam.

Well, in the "real world" (at least) Michael is dead.  And he hasn't BAM-ed yet, so as Larry King said, "He's still dead by the way."  Last year's Lifetime Achievement Award, accepted by Prince and Paris, was also "posthumous".

I'm thrilled too that Michael's nominated, but find "This Is It" an odd song to be nominated for - as some of you have already pointed out.

Sure, MJ could come as anyone.  ;) I think I'd like, most of all, to see the following scenario:
1. Presenter comes on stage and announces that the Grammy goes to Michael Jackson. People in the audience rise and applaud.
2. Prince, Paris and Blanket are invited on stage. The presenter hugs them and hands them the award.
3. Prince starts a speech about how amazing dad and his legacy are, and then goes on to say that this is it, this is really it, because, er... [laughs]...
4. The presenter starts pulling his face - until it's all gone, revealing MJ underneath!
5. The audience panics, cries, laughs, screams etc.
6. MJ does a spin and launches into "This Is It!"
7. At the end Michael and his children collect the trophy and walk off into the sunset.  :D

The curtain falls. Rapturous applause follows - and lasts all night long.

Talking about Grammys,I found this article on internet and I tought it's kind funny and strange in the same time, lol:

Seven Snubs: Who Got Dissed at the Grammy Nominations Show?
By now, music fans have grown accustomed to the fact that the list of albums they love rarely matches up with the list of albums that win Grammys. But sometimes Grammy voters don't just bypass the best music -- they blow off what seem like obvious shoo-ins. Some of the confusion around nominations stems from the awards' unusual eligibility periods -- September 1, 2009 through September 30, 2010 -- but how could they have missed...

Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" for Record of the Year
Ubiquitous enough to have been covered by "Glee" and 30 Seconds to Mars (yes, really), Gaga's monster jam was one of the year's catchiest megahits with good reason: It's a near-perfect pop composition. It went to Number Two on the Hot 100, and sold more than 4 million digital copies. While the song picked up a nod for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, it certainly deserved a shot at one of the three biggest awards of the year.

Justin Bieber's "Baby" for "Record of the Year"
In 2000, 'N Sync sold the most albums but only walked away with three Grammy nominations; this year, teen superstar Bieber mustered two. While we can debate the merits of "Baby" until Bieber is of legal voting age, you can't deny his power -- he's the youngest solo male artist to hit Number One since Stevie Wonder, and his musicianship has earned compliments from some of the industry's most respected players.

Michael Jackson's "This Is It" for Best Long Form Music Video
Documentaries about Rush, the Doors, and the White Stripes picked up nominations, but "This Is It," the fantastic film tracking the King of Pop's rehearsals for what could have been a mind-blowing comeback show, didn't warrant a nod. The footage in this movie was on another level, recounting the final musical moments of one of the greatest artists to ever live: "This Is It" should have moon-walked away with the prize.

Sade for Album of the Year
Vanish for a decade, return with one of the best-reviewed albums of 2010 and still get shut out of the major races? Two songs from "Soldier of Love" earned R&B and Pop category nods, but this still counts as a serious miss.

Train's "Hey Soul Sister" for Record of the Year
The band scored a nomination for a live version of this unbelievably, annoyingly, unavoidable song for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals, but that was it. They even came to play the weirdo Grammy Nominations Concert!

Big Boi for Best Rap Album
The Academy rewarded newbie MCs Drake and B.o.B. with nominations, but couldn't find a spot for one-half of OutKast. Dude deserved a trophy for the name of his disc alone: "Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty."

LCD Soundsystem and Robyn for Best Electronic/Dance Album
Do the Grammy voters dislike fun? Hate insanely brilliant dance-floor jams? "This Is Happening" and any of Robyn's "Body Talk" discs will be making most critics' best-of lists this year for one simple reason: They are the best.

I think it is wonderful that Michael has been nominated, but I honestly don't think he will win.  I really think that Adam Lambert will win.  As Nefari mentioned, Adam Lambert was all over the place this past year, but TII didn't seem to get as much airplay.  Does anyone know how high it went in the charts?  I never listen to the radio so I have no idea.  Don't get me wrong, I would love to see Michael win; I just don't think he will.

its funny because i thought about michael somehow showing up in grammys himself even before this nomination.   i also had a feeling that he was gonna be involved in the grammys somehow. but i guess mu intuitions are right.  he got nominated.
personally i think he would win too but who would be accepting it?

just imagine. i would be in  big shock that i will be staring at the tv will my jaw wide open :o

Maybe the children will come again - along with Mr. Magoo, ahem.

   he would probably disguise himself as someone close in the family like a nanny or a cousin or something   and he would come up with them like that taj, tj and tarrell did for prince and paris last year. they just stood there like statues. Michael Jackson can disguise himself and stand beside his children

 :P  :D  8-)

lmao     i hope some of the people are not really old in the audience if that were to happen because people might actually have a heart attack
8.the following day. the media is going crazy just like when he died but even far worse
lol.
9. TMZ writes "we knew it all along" story

YUP!
10. An MJ source announces that following a venture with Rupert Murdoch, MJ now owns approximately 50% of all American newspapers and serious restructuring is to follow. MJ is also said to own a significant stake in Google.
11. Martin Bashir, Diane Dimond and Diane Sawyer have been taken ill and news has emerged that they are currently at UCLA - in adjoining rooms.     Approximately 100 more journalists are said to have suffered strokes, cardiac arrest, or respiratory failure. Some others show signs of developing PTSD.
12. TMZ hosts party and invites any beLIEver who can come to LA to join in.
13. MJ posts YouTube video saying he has always loved his fans and still does, but he owes a special "thank you" to the MJDH investigators.  :D
14. People all over the world celebrate, hug and form LOVE trains!

And speaking of Bruno Mars....my husband and I were driving and I said "oh my gosh"!!  He said "what?  Oh, that guy sounds like Michael don't he??"  We talked about how much he does sound like Michael and then about the song.  Went home and loaded it to itunes and listened to it.  I tell you, it totally sounds like a Michael Jackson written song.  I can just hear singing it.  Listen to it.  I'm not saying it IS one of Michael's songs, because it isn't, but ..it's very erotically Michael sounding in lyrics and vocals.

Alot of people have said Bruno Mars sounds/looks kind of like MJ. ;)
What's ironic is, he was an Elvis impersonator at the age of 4!
