Title: Updates On New Album Chart Success
Post by: razza1987 on December 10, 2010, 06:24:31 PM
I thought we should have a thread on how the new album is charting around the world.

So far this is what I have found:

"MICHAEL" Already gold in the Netherlands! iTunes Belgium #1 iTunes Germany #1. In Holland the Album 'Michael' has sold 30.000 copies on the first day of release. The first day! Gold already!

Atm I am trying to find out information about how it is doing here in Australia seeing as it was released yesterday but it isn't easy finding information on the new album because of the name of it- the name Michael brings up a lot of irrelevant results

I read on Twitter yesterday that Michael is platinum in 10 countries. I have been trying to verify that but I'm having trouble finding specific information.

Also, on MichaelJackson.com they have him as #1 in 7 countries.

I've been anxiously waiting to hear how the US is doing. Anyone know?

He's also #2 in UK, Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, and Finland.

Question: What happened to Japan? I thought he was huge over there...

Correction - he's #3 in Finland.

Oh gosh...it's already showing him slipping down in some countries. This is quite cruel. I hope it doesn't matter how long they are at #1 to be counted...

Looks like Wednesday is the day we are waiting for.   The updated Billboard Top 200 charts will be published on the 22nd and they're saying that MIchael could sell up to 250,000 albums by this weeks end, going head to head with Anne Boyle and Taylor Swift.  We all know what the outcome is going to be..  MICHAEL #1 hee heeee  :D  :D  :D

"Michael Jackson's first posthumous studio album is in a tight race for honors on next week's chart with reigning champ Susan Boyle and former queen Taylor Swift, according to early industry prognostications.

Jackson's "Michael" could move around 200,000 to 225,000 by week's end on Sunday, December 19. But Boyle's "The Gift" could also sell as many copies (if not more), as could Swift's "Speak Now," which is currently at No. 2. The Billboard 200 chart will be published on Wednesday."

Weekly Chart Notes: Michael Jackson, Lonely Island, Reba McEntire

RETURN OF THE KING: The late King of Pop makes a triumphant return to Billboard's charts.

While "Michael" arrives at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 behind Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" (2-1) and Susan Boyle's "The Gift" (1-2), Michael Jackson's posthumous set claims top honors on R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.

The album is Jackson's eighth No. 1 on the R&B/hip-hop album tally:

Peak Year, Title, Weeks at No. 1
1979, "Off the Wall," 16
1983, "Thriller," 37 (the longest reign in the chart's 45-year history)
1987, "Bad," 18
1992, "Dangerous," 12
1995, "HIStory: Past, Present and Future Book 1," two
2001, "Invincible," four
2009, "Michael Jackson's This Is It" (soundtrack), four
2011, "Michael," one

Jackson ups his total to 94 cumulative weeks atop R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, the most among solo acts. Only the Temptations (109) have spent more time at the summit. Jackson has spent an additional 39 weeks at No. 1 with five leading albums as a member of the Jackson 5.

The arrival of "Michael" spurs a 65-39 jump on the Billboard Hot 100 for the set's first radio single "Hold My Hand," with Akon. The song is Jackson's 38th top 40 hit on the Hot 100, breaking a tie with Neil Diamond. Among male artists, Jackson trails only Elvis Presley (80), Elton John (57), Stevie Wonder (46), James Brown (44), Marvin Gaye (41), Lil Wayne (41; see below) and Frankie Valli (39) for most top 40 charted titles among solo males.

"Hold My Hand" is Jackson's first song to ascend to the Hot 100's top 40 since "Butterflies" took flight to No. 14 in January 2002. With the new track's advance, Jackson becomes the first artist to reach the top 40 on the Hot 100 in each of the '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s and '10s.

‘Michael’ in the USA

By Damien | January 12, 2011

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM!

The Sony Music/MJ Estate album ‘Michael’ spends a second week at #21 on the USA charts after selling 17,000 copies there over the last 7 day sales period.

That takes the ‘Michael’ total to 416,500 in America.

With the sales results we’ve seen so far from ‘Michael’ in the USA, it is highly unlikely that the album will ever be certified Platinum.

‘Michael’ in the UK

By Damien | January 11, 2011

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM!

The recently release Sony Music/MJ Estate album ‘Michael’ has been suffering from worse than anticipated sales. Musicgoss will be keeping fans up-to-date (from now on) with it’s chart and sales progress.

In the UK this week it sold a measly 5,500 copies to land at #43 on the official UK albums chart. A terrible result after only being out for 4 weeks!

The album only managed to maintain a top 40 spot for 3 weeks in the UK and has sold 225,000 copies to date.

"Speak now" about "The Gift", "Hold my hand." MJ
Being no. 1 may not have been the real goal of MJ for this album.
Someone else said, "He's not making music so much as he's making a live Thriller movie right now.

Thank you - I do believe you are correct. I don't think this album is about the sales either but because most of the world does think that it is, this is just a way of documenting the journey.

I don't listen to mainstream radio either. I either listen to CD's all day or to MJTunes, which I love. Sometimes I listen to Pandora too - another great way to listen to music without all of the commercials. Blessings.

As you know, I live in Italy and I have heard various songs from the album being played in shops. Just yesterday, I heard "Monster" at H & M. I also song a bid ad for the album at the local record store near H & M.

On a side note, yesterday evening there was an amazing Michael Jackson impersonator who danced for the crowd in Piazza del Popolo.
