Title: OPUS
Post by: DarkYetLovely on December 17, 2009, 10:42:26 AM
Just wondering if anybody here has or is going to get it. Too pricey for me but I'd love to hear about it. I think the computer card that was meant to allow future updates (on Michael's activities/life perhaps?) is something worth keeping an eye on.

I found it too expensive at first, but I ordered it last week...
So now I have to be very patient, it can take several weeks before it arrives

I pre-order it in September. And they took the money immediately (which I find odd for a pre-order, but ...what can you do about it)
They said that the ones who ordered it before Dec, 1 will receive it latest Dec, 18.
Still checking my mail for their message.

So you haven't received a code yet to track it?

I pre-ordered mine on August 31. Paid $180 (which includes shipping). No tracking number yet, but I did receive this email last week:

As publisher of The Official Michael Jackson Opus, the Opus Media Group would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your contribution to the extraordinary and unprecedented demand for what we believe is a fitting tribute to a true legend.

We wanted to provide you with a delivery update for your Opus. Following the hugely successful launch of The Official Michael Jackson Opus in Los Angeles earlier this week, inclement weather conditions and customs intervention have caused us to adjust our shipping schedule slightly for the Opus. Below is the updated Opus shipping schedule:

For Opus orders placed before December 1:
Rest assured that your Opus will be delivered well before Christmas and, in the majority of cases, by December 18 2009. To help you better track your package, once your order is fulfilled, you will be sent a shipping email and tracking code from Fedex, either later today or early next week.

For Opus orders placed December 2 and after:
Opus Media Group will make every effort possible to ensure these are also delivered before Christmas, but we can only guarantee delivery before Christmas for orders placed before December 1. To help you better track your package, once your order is fulfilled, you will also be sent a shipping email and tracking code from Fedex.

We know your Official Michael Jackson Opus will provide you with beautiful and lasting memories of Michael Jackson. We sincerely thank you for your patronage and your patience.

I received the same mail. Dec.18 is tomorrow so ... I don't think they will keep their promise.
At least we know that we will receive it...sometime in the near future...

I agree with you, Emma. But I tell you what, if I don't receive my Opus by December 24th, then those Opus folks are going to get a seriously NOT NICE letter and/or phone call from me about it after Christmas. I did not pay all that money, on August 31st no less, with a guarantee of Christmas delivery, to have it come later. To me, that would make them liars and thieves just cashing in on MJ like so many others do. They've had my money for almost 4 months, so I want my freaking Opus. WAHHHHHHHH!

My husband ordered it for me in November...he thought he was sneaky but he wasn't.     Anyway, it's still not been delivered, as far as I know.  He's going to be pretty upset if he can't give it to me for Christmas.  They should have never guaranteed a Christmas delivery if they knew it wasn't a definite thing...sounds like there are going to be a lot of angry customers.

Look at the message I've got today from the Opus company:

Dear customer,

We have received some calls from customers regarding the absence of the Opus Reality Card in the Opus and asking why there is only one glove included.

We took the decision to include just one white glove purely as a further tribute to Michael Jackson. The single white glove is an iconic and defining symbol of the man and his extraordinary career and we thought it only fitting to include just one glove with your Opus. We hope that this is an understandable decision.

Please be assured that the promised Opus Reality feature is very much part of the Opus offering, but we want to ensure that this is something only available to our customers. With that in mind, it has been decided that this should be offered through a secure and protected online forum. In the New Year, you will be provided with your own unique pass code to a secure area of the Opus web site. The Opus Reality trigger card will be available to download from the site and used to access footage that will be presented in a way that will hopefully provide you with a unique ‘Michael Jackson Experience’. The benefit of using this system is that it significantly reduces the possibility of non-Opus customers being able to access this experience.

We are committed to bringing you a selection of Opus Reality footage over the coming year with the first example ready for you before the end of January 2010.

We hope that this has helped to address these queries.

Have a great holiday.

Sincerely,

Opus Media Group.

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Nothing about the delivery date, but they let us know that we will receive one glove instead of two and no card. What a BS!!!
Maybe soon they will tell that we will receive only half of the book.

None of my friends or anyone I speak to who are fans are going to buy it-I think because of the price sales will be disappointing. I can see in a few months or in the near future the price coming down.

THEY WILL NOT DICTATE TO ME WHAT I SHOULD ACCEPT.  I WANT WHAT I PAID FOR, A CARD,  NOT A 10 CENT DOWNLOAD FROM A DAMN SITE ON MYCOMPUTER.  WHAT DO THEY THINK WE ARE, IDIOTS?

I received my Opus today!! It is huge and extremely heavy!! A lot of the pics I have seen, and really haven't been able to read that much yet since i worked today. I did notice that there is now RIP or pics of after his death like other books or commerative stuff. I did not receive the cover like they mentioned and the front of the case is hand painted and I fear without a cover it will come off eventually. I can't wait to REALLY read it but again the book is HUGE and HEAVY!!

It will be something I will always treasure and am glad I got it. Did not get the interactive stuff either. Got the one glove, red case and the Opus inside no recipt or letter or anything which I found strange but it is beautiful. Alot of pictures of the art he had painted for him. Unfortunetly since the book is so large you can not copy or scan the pictures. I really don't know where I will put a book this large. Can't wait to really get to read and study this book.

I can't wait for others to get theirs so we can compare notes!!

Title: Re: OPUS
Post by: JENNYAPPLEHEAD on December 19, 2009, 05:37:02 PM
NOPE I just looked no 8/25/58-06/25/09, no R.I.P. nope..there is a sections with the title "Legends don't die" with a page of tributes from Shaq, Olivis Newton John, Arsenio Hall, but there is pages of others talking about Michael, again nothing from his closest friends personally like Dame Liz, Diana, Liza, Mac etc, there is anoother section titled "A Life with Michael" which is Fans' Tributes. Then in the last pages there is Personal Tributes in order of how they appeared in the Opus:
Rev. Jesse Jackson, Quincy Jones, Berry Gordy,Neil Preston,Suzanne De Passe, Tony Jones, Smokey Robinson,Jin Britt,Raphael Saadiq, David Foster,Teddy Riley,Jimmy Jam,Travis Payne, Paula Abdul,Cris Judd,John Landis,Peter Guber,Steve Whitsitt,John Singelton,Deborah Landis,Kimora Lee Simmons,matthew Rolston, Lionel Richie,Wade Robson, David Blaine,Ken Kragen,Alan Buz Kohan,Jane Goodall, Annie Salijevic,Nate Giorgio,David Nordahl,Celine Laveil, Sugar Ray Leonard, Frank Dileo, Jerry Greenberg, Shaq,Mike Tyson,Sevion Glover,Olivia Newton John,Arsenio Hall,Jane Fonda,Verdine White,Spike Lee and Reinet "willow"Loubser.

All these people wrote a story of how they met or an experience etc.

So if there is one you want me to read and break down in here for you let me know and I will read it and share.. :D

Again the book is 400+ pages and I just got it yesterday before work so tonight I will do alot of reading. I can jump ahead to any part you guys want .

AGAIN of couse people talk like he is gone but nowher in this opus does it say RIP or Dates of his death. visibly on one page as a memorial..

Wow I want one! Quite expensive though...

But how is this possible (if MJ is dead):

"The only new publication approved and endorsed by Michael Jackson himself, and by the estate of Michael Jackson"

http://www.krakenopus.com/family/michaeljackson/about.php

Or is this a project pre-"death"?

So guys,I know we buy everything that just has the impression of Michael on it. I got that big box thingamajig at Wal Mart today. I want the Opus just because it is the only thing endorsed by the estate. IT IS JUST SO EXPENSIVE...and it would have been expensive wether or not June 25th had happened...all the Opus's are. Was it worth the buy and are you satisfied? Is it something you buy because of what it is-or something that if you had never heard of it you wouldn't miss anything? I read Jenny saying alot of it she had seen and read before...which was kind of odd to me.

I personally do NOT buy everything that "just has the impression of Michael on it." I have never felt the need to buy everything with his name or likeness on it or in it. I don't even have all of his CD's. For me, that's just not the point. I buy what moves me...that which has meaning and value.  I bought the Opus because it's a comprehensive work that covers his entire career through 2009. I bought it because it is supposed to have some (no, not all) photos and other content that are not published elsewhere. I bought it because it is oversized, with large photos, and it is done with quality. But mostly, I bought it because Michael himself was involved in it. So if he gave it his seal of approval, then surely it would be worth the price I paid, which was $180 (including shipping). Would I pay $300? No. $250? Probably not. But under $200 I was willing to spend for this incredible volume that honors the magic and talent of Michael Jackson. It's a collector's item, something I can pass down, and something I will truly cherish. And there won't be too many other things that I will buy like that, because I don't buy things just because they have his name or likeness on them.

Hey, girl. I know you were not trying to offend anyone.  :D  Just wanted to make it clear that I am not a person who buys everything with MJ on it. Sure, some people do that, and that's great if they want to do that. I've seen some great MJ collections of others! But I just don't do that. I'm selective and try to get only what will be most meaningful...to me. So no offense taken at all.

Just received the OPUS!
Very big, very heavy!
This reminded me of TNZ's article "And the Opus goes to ...or Augumented Reality of Marketing" ... Jackson - coming soon to your coffee table, because for the moment this is the only place I can put this album.
The photos are beautiful, but I have to read the text too (soon).

As I said above I received the Opus today. I just looked through it. But something caught my eye at the end. There is a list of people who wrote tributes in this album. Here are the names (in the order that their tributes appear in the Opus): Reverend Jesse Jackson, Quincy Jones, Berry Gordy, Neal Preston, Suzanne de Passe, Tony Jones, Smokey Robinson, Jim Britt, Raphael Saadiq, David Foster, Teddy Riley, Jimmy Jam, Travis Payne, Paula Abdul, Cris Judd, John Landis, Peter Guber, Steve Whitsitt, John Singleton, Deborah Nadoolman Landis, Kimora Lee Simmons, Matthew Rolston, Lionel Ritchie, Wade Robson, David Blaine, Ken Kragen, Alan Buz Kohan, Jane Goodall, Annie Salijevic, Nate Giorgio, David Nordahl, Celine Lavail, Sugar Ray Leonard, Frank DiLeo, Jerry Greenberg, Shaquille O'Neal, Mike Tyson, Savion Glover, Olivia Newton-John, Arsenio Hall, Jane Fonda, Verdine White, Spike Lee, Reinet "Willow" Loubser.
Who's missing from this list? Maybe Elizabeth Taylor, maybe Kenny Ortega, maybe Miko Brando?
Until page 100 there are mostly pictures with Michael as a child.
Much too many photos with Jackson 5.
1 photo with Fred Astaire.
1 photo with Janet (in the studio at Scream) and Janet also appear in a group photo with Jackson 5 + the 3 sisters.
2 photos with Diana Ross, 1 photo with Jane Fonda, 1 photo with Tatum O'Neal, 2 photos with Brook Shields,  1 group photo with Elizabeth Taylor, Liza Minelli, Whitney Houston, another photo just with Liza M., 2 photos with Oprah (?), 1 photo with Elizabeth Taylor (in a period when she was very fat), 1 photo with Macaulay Culkin (and Mickey Mouse), 1 photo with Princess Diana, 1 photo with Lisa Marie (and a huge group of children). Lisa also appears with Michael in a photo visiting a children hospital.
A portrait of Prince called "Prince, The Boy King", which is beautiful by the way.
2 photos with Frank DiLeo.
Another small group photo in which among others is Lisa Marie too.
2 photos from 2009: 1. Arriving amid a crush of paparazzi to see Oliver! at London's Theatre Royal in March 2009 and 2. Still got it: Michael at 50 in rehearsals for his planned This is it series of concerts at London's O2 arena. Sadly, his untimely passing meant the show would not go on.
And this is it guys.
My opinion?
As I already said too many photos with Michael as a child and teenager.
Too many (much too many) photos with the Jackson 5.
Zero photos with Mr. and Mrs. Jackson.
Zero tributes from Elizabeth Taylor or Macaulay Culkin (and probably many other celebrity close friends).
And the most important thing: no photo with his children.

I have this strange feeling that someone is trying to make me acknowledge the fact that Michael was black and that the most important period in his life was Jackson 5 period.
And I don't think is just a feeling. I'm almost convinced that this is the message of this album.
And I don't think that this was Michael's idea. Somebody else took over the creation of this album after June 25.
Even if the publisher says that only the Estate representatives were involved in this, I don't believe him. I think the family was very involved too.
But then: why there is not a single photo of the parents? and also no photos of the children?

I can't wait to receive mine...

Leah, they stop selling when they are all sold.
I ordered it via ticketmaster, but as far as I can see they don't sell it anymore. They redirect you to krakenopus now.

Question..
do you think that later on it will become a good investment?
I already have one, and I'm contemplating buying another and keeping it sealed.
Do you think later down the road it'll be a money draw?

YES on both. Earlier in the thread I saw that Princes' Opus is like 2 grand. When they are gone they are gone is my understanding and they are so pricy to begin with its not like something that is gonna be laying around at resale shops   They are advertised as something that can be passed down as a keepsake so yeah I think it would be a good invest. I want one and I hope when I can get one they are still available.

I just spent a couple of days looking into all these people. Trying to find out how close Michael himself was to them. Kind of came up with mixed results. I know some of the artists he was close with. Nate I think he was still friends with prior to June 25th 09. The only person I can see as a more recent friend is the Annie girl and I never heard of her before. She wrote a blog entry (I cant find it now) about him and being on the TII rehearsals but insisting on only sharing the childhood story in the opus. My friend has her on fb (uses a different last name on it though) but I wasnt approved when i requested to add her. She just seems to be the only one who I heard was around more recently. I wasnt so surprised about Liz Taylor not being in it though. She's an older lady. Was Mac still close to Michael at all?

Upon reviewing all the 'evidence' and the lack of tributes from his closer friends in general, not just in this book - Chris Tucker and Liz Taylor mostly - I've been finding this whole situation more and more bizarre. I can't claim I believe in the hoax yet though but you guys have collected some amazing information here and I'll keep reading with an open mind.

I bought mine last year when they were taking pre-publication orders. The regular price at that time as I understood it was to be around $250. If you ordered it before it was printed it was offered at a lower price, and that offer was for a short time only. I paid a total of $193 and that included shipping. I bought it through Ticket Master. You had to register with them in order to buy it. Those who are trying to get one should probably start with Ticket Master and ask them about the book and see what they say.

Earlier in August 09 I was surfing the internet trying to read everything I could about MJ, when I stumbled upon and article about MJ and the Opus book. In the article there were pictures of MJ and an executive of Opus showing MJ a preview of the book. And they were saying how excited he was about the book. I thought I had bookmarked that site but I hadn't, bummer! And I couldn't find it again. So when I read that the project was to continue and the book was going to be published, I was elated!

I paid for it in September 09 and they promised it would be delivered before Christmas and it was. The only thing is the special card that would allow you to watch special MJ videos over the internet did not come with it and they said they were trying to come up with another way to do the video viewing that would keep those who didn't buy the book but some how got their hand on the card from viewing the videos. I Think that email came some time earlier in 2010 and I have heard nothing since then.

I bought the book in support of MJ! If it is selling for the $600-800, it is because it is no longer being printed! And you know what happens to the price when things go out of print!

Blessings!

P.S. I simply love the book!
