I hope so too.  Now is the tricky part.  Freedom isn't free and people in power play a lot of games.

Yes that's the problem when we deal with dictators, freedom has to be demanded and fight for instead of just being a free God-given right. I wonder how will things evolve because I always keep in mind that the dark side has an agenda and wants to take advantage of such situations. The Egyptian people had no other way to fight than go to the streets. I am really happy that they have not given up and persevered til the end. Now the question is what will rise up after this revolution? All I can say is that the world is transforming itself before our very eyes and truths are being revealed. My heart goes out to the people caught up in the turmoil.

All 'leaders' seem to turn out to be 'Dictators' it seems...some more covert than others, seems the only difference.

That the dictator has left his thrown is a good thing. Although it is a delicate matter and the fact remains that there will be a shift of power.

The military enjoys a certain respect of the Egyptian people unlike the hated police. However during the past 3 weeks the military didn’t completely choose the side of the demonstrators and looked away when the demonstrators were attacked by armed Mubarak-supporters.

I honestly hope that the elections will be free and fair. It is a delicate matter, because now the Armed Forces Supreme Council has been mandated to run the state until the elections. The Egyptian people who are longing for democracy and self-determination, must hope that the military, as it did in previous take-overs of power in Egypt, doesn’t show up with a self-chosen candidate leader.

It's about time he stepped down, but I'm afraid he may have pulled strings to put another from his party in power, leaving him behind the scenes..
let's hope not. But I wish the people of Egypt all the best, I hope they can pick up the pieces.

It just goes to show you that with enough people anything is possible.  I truly hope for the best for Egypt and that they are able to have a new honest and transparent government run by the people.  It would be so nice for such an ancient people with so much history to set an example of what's possible for the rest of the world.

TS' quote "
Quote
...Better to ultimately die with the Truth, than to live with a lie...
one day before Mubarak's stepping down from power came into my mind again when I saw a picture in today's news where two men were sitting under and in front of a tank with fear in their eyes, but hope to stop the tank from rolling further, killing them.  A totalitarian regime, oppressing and torturing its own people for years,  made them forget and overcome their fear of being killed by a rolling tank. Their desire for more freedom and a change in government gave them strength to try to resist with nothing more than their bodies without a weapon, just sitting there. It is only one example representative for many others who would have even sacrificed their lives for the fight for freedom and democracy.
Watching Mubarak's speech for long 16 minutes, left me thinking. He has talked for such a long time to his people, but what did he say to them? NOTHING but shallow words, not to be trusted.
The people of Egypt must have been disappointed and angry.
The next day his time was over.
It is to be hoped that the vacuum until free elections is not filled by another dictatorial regime, and all fighting had been in vain.

He left to the Arab Emirates.

Good that he listened to his people. Let´s stay tuned for the developments.
