Oprah's Star-Studded Farewell Show: Celebrities Pack Chicago's United Center
Tens of thousands of Oprah Winfrey fans lined up at Chicago's United Center Tuesday evening for the taping of "Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular," which may be the biggest gathering of A-list celebrities that the city has ever seen.
More than 154,000 people requested tickets to the two-show taping, and the lucky ticket winners were asked to be at the United Center by 5 p.m. when doors opened. The first taping began around 7 p.m., when Tom Hanks and Tom Cruise surprised the biggest star of the show--Winfrey herself. Then, a performance by Patti LaBelle and Josh Groban, a confession from Madonna, a video salute from Tina Fey and Steve Carell, a Dakota Fanning moment and a performance by Beyonce--all in the first hour.
Beyonce, who sang and danced to "Girls (Who Rule the World)" was reportedly unhappy with her first performance, so she did it again. The first show ended with appearances by Diane Sawyer, Halle Berry, Katie Holmes, Queen Latifah and a performance by Rascall Flatts.
The second part of the show (which will air on May 24) began around 9:30 p.m., when Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan surprised Winfrey. Actor Will Smith introduced Jordan, describing the United Center as the "house that Michael Jordan built." His statue sits outside the building, where led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA championships during the 1990s.

Michael Jordan was there, but is he called MJ too? Never heard of it. When MJ is said I can think of Michael Jackson only. And when you google MJ, all you find is Michael Jackson related web pages.

Yes, but Oprah's not a local talk-show, she's national/international. Therefore I vote she knows what she's saying by "MJ". She knows she's covered and innocent-looking by saying MJ because of local usage, but what she's really dropping is "MJ's in the house"! For real. Just my take/hope!! mj_bad/ Something's going on--I can feel it!

And if we think about how she used THIS IS IT, THIS IS THE MOMENT for her show, it is really interesting to me how she calls M. Jordan as MJ. Maybe there is nothing behind it and she's calling him with his nickname only but maybe she is trying to refer Michael Jackson. Can be both too.

I should probably add that in Space Jam, Bugs Bunny called Michael Jordan "MJ". As did a couple other characters if I recall correctly!

I absolutely agree!!! When she announced she was ending her show she told us that day. The last show was going to BLOW OUR MIND. My first thoughts were MJ and it sure wasnt Michael Jordan lol. MJ and MJ were good friends though :) They made a video together ;) 8-) Yep i think somethin is up 8-)

It is very possible that she was aware of how it sounded and was purposely vague. It's sort of weird to announce Michael Jordan as MJ. Almost disrespectful.

I think people are seriously over-thinking this. Oprah was referring to Michael Jordan, plain and simple. He isn't only known as MJ in Chicago. I've heard several basketball fans refer to Michael Jordan as MJ, so it isn't unheard of in the US at all. I also don't think it was disrespectful for Oprah to call him MJ. I'm certainly not a big fan of Oprah's, but Michael Jordan didn't seem to mind, plus it's no different than sports announcers calling him Jordan or MJ.

I agree, like the old man dancing, and the old man sitting next to Prince watching the basket ball game. Ok now lets go back to the topic. Oprah knows that there is only one MJ and it is Michael Jackson, her show is international. I don't watch basketball, even though I use to play in high school and we won the championship. It brings confusion to people. Unless she is not in the hoax and figures that Michael is dead, so by calling Michael Jordan MJ no harm done.. We wouldn't expect anything of it. Only my thoughts.

Michael Jordan is absolutely internationally known he had more fans in China than the USA. He is constantly referred to as 'MJ' and his fame rivaled Michael Jacksons easily, especially in the 90's. To even bat an eye at this as if it's a clue to Michael Jackson being alive is ridiculous.

I'm sure you're very right (and my post hasty :oops: ) but in a way the Jam video was like a dual between the two MJ's.

You can't say that Oprah isn't totally aware of what the vast number of M Jackson fans are thinking when she said it. She knew exactly the stir and mixed emotions it created around the world. She ain't no dummy. And IF Michael is truly alive, and IF Oprah knews about it, then this was a set-up. M Jordan sure doesn't have the genius to pull off this mind-blowing hoax.

I can't believe how some still underestimate Michael Jackson (MJ).
He has been seen in stilts and towered over his brothers onstage in that pic. Did someone here post that pic? I'll try to find it. Plus, in some instances, I could totally see him wearing 6 inch platforms, and etc. To point blank think that MJ couldn't have been the man sitting with Prince at that Laker Game w/Uncle Jackie is...................? Too much! MJ is the Master of Excellence. If there is a way to get it done, he can. Did we see the man ever get/stand up? I don't think so. Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Last night, I was watching something on TCM (Turner Classic Movies), and they showed about how they captured certain shots, frames, slicing and dicing. The SHOT is supposed to be the most important aspect of filming. Shoot - I'm gone have to post this somewhere else, but I wanted to point out the obvious, and it is that MJ did the short film Ghosts in a past decade. Could TECHNOLOGY have improved since then? I think so.
Would MJ have the wherewithal to take advantage of this technology? Is he the type to incorporate the latest and greatest? I think so. For the ones that think MJ can disguise himself PLAYING another character like he did for the Mayor in Ghosts and for the other characters he played - please raise your virtual hand. I know we have some more believers in him out there.
Just because some here don't have the IMAGINATION that MJ has as explained below won't stop his SHOW. It just happens to the The Greatest Show on Earth. (Presently)

When the hoax started there were a lot of videos in youtube regarding the same subject. Even "Jonelle?" had one i remember when talking about the O2 stage.
Techniques in the movie industry have evolved more than we think and if all this was a trick, MJ succeded!

I know this sounds crazy and far fetched but if there is one person respected enough and with the means and the power and money to help Michael in this death hoax…Oprah would be she. If she assisted Michael in this as a way to right the wrongs she had imposed on him upon realizing that she was extremely instrumental in perpetrating the assassination of his character by sheer will, then perhaps that would explain why Michael’s mother, Janet, his children and any other of his family members opted to appear on her show. (Be it without the blessings of many of his fans, including me.) I know that certainly they all are aware of how unfair Oprah had been to Michael in the past. So if this be the case, then it would explain their change of heart and their decisions to work with her. The building blocks to the final climactic end.
For Michael to come back on Oprah (though again I don’t have my hopes up), would be THE most ABSOLUTE way to win back the hearts of the people who have would otherwise condemned her and especially him. For Oprah to bring Michael back with a simple explanation of why if not how, would change the hearts of the world once and for all and Michael Jackson would be welcomed back with open arms. NO HARM DONE. IF, and I stress that word, this were to happen, it would be monumental and historical. We ALL KNOW how important that is to the Queen lolol/ . Nothing could EVER SURPASS that. NOTHING. She would reign as the Queen of Pop Culture forever. Now I’d call that going out with bravado and a mutha freakin BAM! bearhug

This is off topic but I have to write it. You can make a 5'9 man 6'1 with high heels which would be obvious again BUT you can NOT make the arms and legs look longer. I see that people forget about this serious issue. And I'm aware of all the new techniques and ANY of them are capable of making Michael those people. And plus I don't see a reason of Michael becoming an old guy, Murray and Grace. That is nonsense.

It is my personal opinion that we will have the trial first and then maybe next year the BAM.
