Title: Forum
Post by: ~Souza~ on October 30, 2011, 05:48:11 AM
Just a quick message about the forum looking strange. I did a fresh install because some had certain posting/loading problems. It will not stay this way, but will change a few times probably in the next few hours.

I will let you know when I'm done.

Thank you Souza for all of your continued hard work of trying to accommodate, correct and make us happy.  I signed on this morning and thought I was back in the twilight zone.  Thanks for letting us know.  Take care,  Love to you

Okay, I'm pretty much done. Everything should work again, including the 'last unread post' button. Some features are deleted, either because they were not being used, or because they gave errors after the latest forum upgrade.

I have also installed a light theme for people that have trouble loading this theme. You can change themes in your profile: look & layout -> MJDHI Light. This light theme is not graphic and has less features, but might be a solution if you encounter loading problems or if you have a slow internet connection.

I hope everything works again for you all, and let me know if you have any questions.

1- where are the smileys?
2- how do i log out?
3-i can´t read the letters under this post, they come in white. I guess the post button is the 1st starting from the left, so i give it a try

Huh? Smileys are here for me. Can't you see them? WTF??

Logout in menu (silver bar on top)

Yes, the buttons are not very clear. Maybe I will change that later if I have time. I can see it, but that might depend on your screen.

Love the new look and greatly appreciate everything that you do Souza!

One little thing and it might just be that I have to click something somewhere but I can't see videos. I see the space where they should be but there's nothing there. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue?

Thanks in advance!

You haven't done with it, have you Souza? I can not see any "Latest Topics" kind of thing on this one. There is 'Recent Ones' but it shows only 5 recent posts. And I must say that the older one was way so much better than this. It was more professional and looking way so much better. So I hope you are still fixing it and this is not the forum's last status.

You know what PureLove, you may not find this forum good enough, others do. I can not please everyone on here. Fact is that I spent hours and hours to install a new one and to make a new design since due to technical difficulties I could not use the old one. There were problems with loading and posting, so it needed to be fixed. I am working with a converted database that updates more difficult than a fresh one, only so that you all don't have to switch between forums or register again. Functionality is priority, design is not, although I personally think this one looks better, but that's simply a matter of taste.

As for the recent topics and other functionalities that are missing, I will have to see if I can try to re-install it. The problem is that there has been an upgrade of the software version, which means that certain modifications need to be upgraded too by their makers and they might not be available yet. I might be able to do it myself, but there is a risk that I f*ck up the whole system and have to start over, or that I will have to spend another day just on writing codes.

I have a trial site that needs updating, questions to answer and I have a laptop that needs to be repaired because it shuts down every hour. Besides all that: I have a job. I really am not in the mood for 'I don't like the design'. Simply post the stuff you miss which was on the old forum and that I have not (yet) installed here, and give me a break, okay? Thank you.

As I stated my opinion about the previous forum, I stated my opinion about this one too Souza. You should be open to all kinds of comments. After this post of yours no one would be able to write it if they do not like the forum because you put the words in people's mouths. The old one was slow for some but as you can see some still say that this one is slow too. I don't know what other problems occured and I appreciate the job you are doing for the forum but still I should have a right to state my opinion where the admin doesn't rebuke me. Thank You!

PureLove, I do not need opinions on the design, the design is what it is and you can take it or leave it. I need opinions on the functionality. Certain members that had problems posting and loading, do not have the problems anymore.

But PureLove, if you think you can do a better job and have an hour or 10 to spend on it each day, you can always think about starting your own. I am done with your everlasting whining comments about everything, just to tell me later that I should shut the fuck up because I scare members. You need to learn to adjust and accept things you have no control over, like the design of this forum. If you have useful functionality suggestions, please post them, design-related stuff is useless.

I would love to see you showing me where I was whining about everything souza! I think you are mistaking me with someone else or trying to show me as a negative person. If I could do it, I would have started my own forum long ago but unfortunately I do not have any ability to do that. I'm tired of your bossy attitudes and I want you to know that I'm not here for you. I just said that I didn't like the new forum. It was all ok when I said I liked it about the previous forum but now it is bad because I said I didn't like it? Learn to accept the opinions which doesn't applaud or praise you.

It is all question of getting used to it. It will take time, but we will find our way around.. It is normal when we get accustomed to something then there are changes it is not very agreeable. I understand Purelove what she is saying. In another hand I understand what  Souza had to do. Souza thanks for your hard work and dedication. Souza one question, are we going to be able to see the trial livestream? I cannot find it.. thanks.

What is annoying to me is the POKE.. i  got 7 pokes again you click on it and there is no poke.  Souza I remember I had PM you about this matter  and you never replied back. I think while you are added in fixing this forum fix the pokes or remove this function.. It is very annoying.

LOL, the poke function is like this (screwed up) but I think it's fun. Ghost pokes. That is why I kept it. The script is not right, that is why you sometimes get ghost pokes, but the function is working, because if I poke someone, it will appear.

On the forum index ('home' in top menu), there is a link to the trial, plus the forum logo also still redirects you to it. Just click on it and you will be redirected to the feed.

Wow...I've been away for a couple days and come back to a whole new looking (and working) forum  ::P.  I don't know how you do it Souza...how you 'fit' all this into your day/life.  I could probably find/make time to do what you must do daily for the forum (although that wouldn't be easy)...but I would definitely lack in techicial abilities, patience...and by extension, commitment (in that order lol).

Thanks for being super in all three  /bravo/

I haven't been on the 'new' forum long enough yet to notice many 'technical' issues (if I come across any others, I'll post about them).  But I've noticed what's already been mentioned...
- the smileys don't appear above the 'quick reply' option, but they do appear in the 'preview' menu (hope that makes sense)
- the words 'post', 'preview', 'save as draft' don't appear until I scroll over them...they're just empty boxes (until I scroll over them)
- I used to be able to click on 'home' to see the latest posts...I think 'home' now takes me to the forum page (what you used to get when you clicked on forum).  I think I can get the same thing by clicking on 'unread posts'...so it's not a big deal

None of these are 'big deals'...they are minor things we can get by without....but we've been spoiled

I will see if I can photoshop the buttons. I can see the text, but that might be because of my screen resolution/graphic card because apparently I am one of the few. Will do that later.

The smilies are indeed not in the quick reply field anymore. If you want to use smilies or other codes, you have to click 'reply' and go to full post mode.

The home page has some issues, it's in an older format and won't install as I want it to. I am trying to make it work at the moment or otherwise I will try to find an alternative portal.

The scrolling doesn't work the same anymore like the typical place your mouse on the scroll bar(click and drag down). I tried changing the theme to light and it's still the same thing. Thanks bearhug

But I don't know if it's my computer, but each time i click on a page, a pop up show up and ask me about the script, and if i continue, my computer can stop running...And is it normal that i can't use the right click to open in a new page? This was happening to me as well. The pop up said:

"Stop running  this script? A script on  this page is causing IE to run slowly. If it continues to run your computer may become unresponsive"

I tried fixing it by changing my Internet Options, I defragged my hard drive, I did a disk cleanup...but it was still doing the same. I downloaded a fix-it file from Microsoft..but it still did the same. Every page  on this site was freezing but no other webpages I went to were and I also couldn't log into the site.

So I figured it was some glich between Internet Explorer and the new format.

So I swapped to Google Chrome and it works like a dream now :) plus it loads soooo much faster than the previous format. So all is good now I have swapped to Chrome.

Sorted out my problem. I clicked box to disable right click in my profile and now I can again post links and vids. But you would think that by clicking to disable it it would do the opposite????Is this a glitch.

@VeryLittleSusie...this is what happened for me as well. After I disabled the right click option in  modify profile, I can once again right click.

I always use Chrome, because it works ten times better then IE. Yet I did test on IE as well, since many people still use IE. It works fine by me in IE too, are you guys sure you have the latest version of IE?

As for the right-click box: it's a box that can take you to your most recent topics/posts or pm's in a heartbeat, wherever you are on the forum. If it's not working for you (katooooo, what is your screen resolution?) then you can deactivate it in your profile settings. If you do want to use the tool, and also want to copy and past, I suggest you learn to copy and paste with your keyboard. Ctrl C for copy and Ctrl V to paste. I never use right click for that, but that's just something you should get used to.

Can anyone tell me what exactly that script message is? Or post a screenshot or something?

Hello Souza. There was a feature that I liked a lot, we could read 10 pages of the most recent posts without having to go in the threads but it's been removed (we now have the most recent topics). I don't know if it's possible to have this back or not? Anyway the forum looks great and thanks for all the hard work, it's greatly appreciated.  :)

It's still there: http://www.michaeljacksonhoaxforum.com/smf2.0/index.php?action=recent

Click the icon in the bar before 'recent posts' on the homepage to get to it.

Is there something I should change as far as settings to get the scroll to work correctly? This is the only site (excluding other sites like yahoo google...etc) that I have to use the arrow buttons to move up and down the pg where as before I could use the reg mouse. Thanks.

Scroll bar works fine for me in Chrome. Maybe you should install Chrome instead of IE? IE doesn't support lots of new formats and websites, that's why I never use it. Or maybe Firefox or Safari? I don't know if it works well in those, I had to reinstall both a while ago.

Thanks, I have tried this but it also displays the recent topics instead of recent posts.  bangbang

Not sure if you've addressed this yet, but the chatroom (the one you click on when you're on the homepage) isn't functioning properly. I apologize if you've talked about this before, but when you click on it the chat doesn't pop up. It just has a little box with part of the forum in it.

Yes I know, but it wasn't used anyways and people are now in the trial chat. I think I might put that chat up there later.

Hey Souza, nice updates to the site.  I know you work really hard to make this the best site for all of us.  One thing though that is now happening is that the page freezes up when I try to update page or go to a topic.  Then I get a message popping up that basically says something to the effect of a script on this page is causing the web browser to run slow and may affect the computer.  Do you know what is causing this?  Thanks!

I don't know if this has anything to do with the new forum or my computer, but when I'm typing, as I am now, it keeps freezing and then playing catchup. It's only been doing this for the past few days. Very frustrating! Any ideas?

Thanks Souza for the tip about using Ctrl C, Ctrl V to copy and paste - the things this hoax is teaching me! The right click profile thingie is great too as a quick way to find our own posts.

Hi. I use IE. I haven't been here much for a few days as the forum constantly freezes - when I am scrolling down reading - when I am typing etc. Thought it was my computer but other sites are not doing it.

I'm on Firefox - only freezing when I'm typing here and on the trial chat, just scrolling round the forum itself is fine, very quick.

I'm trying the 'light' version now - still freezing as I type so going back to 'full fat'!
Title: Re: Forum

Okay, I found the solution for the scrollbar in IE (IE9, not sure about older versions). Inslead of click-and-drag the scrollbar, double-click-and-drag. No clue why that is, but if you click twice before dragging it up and down, you will be able to scroll.

I hsve no idea about the freezing though guys. Bith in IE and in Chrome it works smooth for me. Might be a problem/something missing on your sides. I can't think of anything that might cause that, especially since you have the same problem with the light version.

PS: I also see that the white buttons are also a IE thing. I am on IE now and can't see the text, while if I view them in Chrome, they are there. I wish Microsoft would keep their software up-to-date...

Had the same problem. This is the first time I've been able to post in the last 3 days. Switch over to chrome like others have suggested. It works like a breeze for me now. Before it wouldn't load the pages properly. Scrolling up and down didn't work properly either and my computer froze continously.  Tried using the light version, but still had the same amount of problems. Can be frustrating. Try chrome if you can.  Hopefully it will help

Yeah, I am conservative that's why I think fast is never smooth, would be easier even for the admin to keep it same and  simple.
In general, when people get used to something, rapid change pushes person away from that something and estranges eventually. Guests, for example, of this site, as well as members. that's all.

About 3 days ago suddenly this site was just awful for me--slow, freezing and I thought I had a virus /overreacting/ . My daughter said one night you should switch to Google Chrome, but I had no clue what she was talking about. The next day I read the post above about Chrome and said "Aha!"  My son took a minute to change it for me and voila--- everything is super fast!  I can sort of see Scorpionchik's point in changes can be hard to get used to, but hey the computer age is all about rapid change so we just have to try to keep up or it will leave us behind.  My son will help if I twist his arm, lol, and members here are so helpful!

Thanks Souza for all your hard work and commitment to this wonderful place! typing/ /bravo/

Did I click on something inadvertantly while I've been experimenting on my profile?!  I've now got the main body of the page condensed down the middle with lots of other stuff down each side.  Is this something I've done and can get rid of?

really suprised at some of the attitudes. this site isnt a right or an entitlement. its a privledge. souza no doubt has a personal life, in addition spends hours of her time supporting the IT of this site and forum and ensuring this place is not only running properly but also constantly modifies it for our benefit AND still has time to read our posts, monitor comments, participate in discussion and chat, load videos of court case for people, who dont watch it live, has YT channel, etc etc etc... so a bit of  respect/ please

sorry, know its not my business abt peoples attitudes, but was just taken back and couldnt refrain from saying something.

/pull hair/ <---- this kind of stuff isnt really helpful. in addition to all the work she does, souza has created a thread where people can log their IT issue so it can be resolved...

so don't understand the need for attitude....

again, have to say. im shocked at some of the ungratefulness displayed here...

i apologise in advance if i offend with this comment, but it is just how i feel.

I agree with you up to a certain point. We all have opinions and we should let the admin know how we feel, Like I always say, you can tell a person anything you want, there is a way to tell a person, with diplomacy, and with respect. We live in a free country that if we are restricted in stating our opinion, what are we good for? So AustralianMj yes I agree with you that sometimes people have rough edges, but they are entitled to speak up.. Yes Souza takes time to fix this forum, and we thank her.

allforlove... trust me hun, i am the biggest advocate of freedom of speech I can assure you of that. woo hoo for FOS  /woohoo/

im more talking about the  WTF?? is wrong with the forum comments, amongst the I like the old forum better. if its constructive by all means. but if its just unappreciative and unconstructive complaining then that is what baffles me. this forum is by no means perfect, there are things that i'd love to see changed. but this forum has to suit more than just one person, so the best thing IMHO is to be grateful for the resource i have and the opportunity to have as much DH information located here that i can sink my teeth into. so therefore i am grateful and appreciative.

i apologise if i caused offence. wasnt my intention.

I think you are referring to my post about loving the old forum. Yes, I still say that it was less complicated than this one and it was easier to find things on it. It's just my opinion. It was slow for some of us but now this new one is slow for me for instance. I'm sure that Souza is trying to do the best for the forum and for everyone but it is not possible to please everyone and to make it work perfect for everyone.

When I state a negative comment about the new forum, does it mean that I'm not appreciated what the admin has been doing for this forum? I always thank Souza for the things she has been doing but I would like to write whatever I feel about the new features of the forum as well, without getting bashed and thinking that I'm disrespectful. Freedom of speech requires both positive and negative comments. And IMO, negative comments would make the forum develope more as long as they're not rude.

No dear, no offense, I was just stating that we should speak up and maybe Souza can have some ideas and combine them together that is all.. you can state your opinion anytime you want.. Like I said I agreed with you too..much love and blessings.
