Title: Frank Cascio's New Book: Some Interesting Stories
Post by: MichaelsAngel on November 19, 2011, 04:10:06 PM
Hey guys, I'm currently reading Frank Cascio's New Book: My Friend Michael and I thought I'd share some interesting stories for those of you who don't have time to read it or don't want to. The book is divided into three parts and I'm on part three. I have to say that while it is a good book and it does tell about the magic of Michael but it is not all positive. It talks a lot of Michael's drug use and the problems that Michael faced. I wouldn't say that Frank is trying to portray Michael in a bad light, he actually comes off as protective of him, but I think these stories are being told for a reason. So here are some of the highlights:

-Frank ALWAYS talks about how natural a father Michael is. I loved reading all of the stories about when Frank was a kid and Michael essentially helped raise him. He said that Michael always found a lesson in everything and stressed the importance of knowledge.

-Frank's dedication to Michael: "To Michael, my teacher--thank you for being a father, a brother, a mentor, and a friend, and for the greatest adventure I could ever have imagined I love you, and I miss you every day.

-Frank says that Michael explained his marriage to Lisa Marie as a business deal. Michael said that he needed to appear as if he was a family man to Prince Al-Waleed especially after the 1993 allegations. However, it kind of seems as if Frank doesn't really believe that was the entire case. He also said that they were intimate and he thinks that Michael really just wanted to have children. He said that Michael complained that Lisa liked to fight and that Michael's response would be to just sit there clapping and smiling  lolol/  And although, Lisa said that they remained close for four years after the divorce, Frank said he hardly ever saw them together. But Frank does believe that Lisa thought the marriage was real.

-Michael also said that the marriage to Debbie was for business as well. He married her because Prince Al-Waleed didn't like the idea of him having children outside of marriage. Based on the book, Debbie and Michael lived separately and rarely had contact but they were still good friends. During this time, Michael also had a few casual girlfriends with some of his fans.

-According to Frank, Michael had a lot of love for his family but always kept them at a distance. He said that Michael always praised Randy for his musical talents and that he could play any instrument he wanted. Interestingly, Frank said that while Michael forgave La Toya for what she said in 1993 but he still wanted nothing to do with her. And Michael had had problems with Jermaine contracting him to appearances and business deals without his permission and so even though he loved Jermaine, he had to keep him at a distance, which Jermaine then wrote Word to the Badd in response, and while Michael eventually forgave, he wanted nothing to do with him after that.

-Michael did not want to reunite with his brothers for the 30th reunion special, especially because he didn't want to deal with Jermaine, but he did for his mother

-From what I gather, It was actually Frank who had the meeting in the World Trade Centers on 9/11 to return a $2 million watch that Michael had worn in the 30th anniversary special to the Bank of America

Ok this is where it gets really sad:

-based on everything I've read so far, it seems that everything went downhill after the 1993 allegations. Frank made sure to emphasize that NOTHING inappropriate happened when him and his brothers stayed with Michael. It was also interesting to note that every time Frank and Jordie were both at Neverland, Jordie always stayed in the Guest units and based on my interpretation, it didn't seem like Michael and Jordie were as close as the press made them out to be.

-Michael did take demerol in 1984 after the Pepsi incident and in 1993 but he wasn't addicted. Here is a quote about him going to rehab in '93:
"in later years, Michael would explain to me that the cancellation of the tour had had nothing to do with drug addiction. It was because his next tour date was in Puerto Rico, on American soil, and if he had entered the United States at this time, there was a very real chance that he would have been arrested on the allegations of child molestation. To avoid his arrest, his team of handlers had to come up with a way to get him out of the rest of the tour. The only way to guarantee that the part of the tour that was canceled would be covered by insurance would be if Michael opted out because of a medical problem..."

-According to Frank, Michael really became dependent after his bridge accident in 1999. This was the first time that he witnessed Michael receiving propofol. Frank became increasingly concerned when he noticed all of the medication Michael was receiving and at times doctors would put prescriptions in Frank's name. However, Michael told Frank it was because he was in extraordinary pain and he had been entertaining since he was five and it was catching up to his body. So at first, Frank trusted the doctors.

-But Frank really started to worry when Michael once told him, "One thing doctors can't measure and diagnose is pain. If you tell them you're in pain, they have to treat you based on what you feel." Frank told him he didn't want to end up like Elvis but Michael said he didn't have a problem.

He goes in to more detail and other stories of drug abuse but I found this one particular sad:
"I had never seen Michael in such a state. Neve, ever in my life...I covered Michael's face with my jacket and loaded him into the wheelchair, and we all went upstairs: Michael in the wheelchair, Grace, Prince, Paris, the two other security guards, and I. When everyone started to pile into the room, I suddenly felt like I couldn't take it anymore and I blew up. 'Grace, Take the kids!' I demanded and sent them away. Security was trying to explain what had happened, but I didn't even let them get started. 'How could you let this happen?' I exploded. 'He can't even fucking talk. His kids were on the train with him! His kids saw this! Everyone get the fuck out of this room.'...I ordered some Gatorade from room service so Michael could start to hydrate. Then I turned to him and said, 'Why the fuck did you do this to yourself? What did you take?'
Michael was honest with me. 'I was drinking vodka--and then I took a Xanax.'
'You're a fucking idiot for doing that in front of your kids,' I fumed.
'It wasn't in front of them,' he mumbled, which I guessed was possible...then Michael announced, 'They are trying to fuck me.'
'Who is trying to fuck you?'
'The Firm.' He was referring to his managers. He told me to get one of them on the phone...[Frank says he shouldn't talk to anyone on this condition but he grabbed the phone]
'I'm the biggest artist in the world,' he began. 'And you're treating me like this? You're supposed to be working for me, fighting for what I want and what's best for this album. You haven't shown me a marketing plan. I've been asking for a plan for six months and I haven't seen a thing. WHere's the plan? You're purposely trying to sabotage this album. You're fucking traitor....I'd never heard him raise his voice and yell at someone, but now he was screaming: 'Fuck you, fuck you, you're fired. Stay out of my life. If you don't believe in me, there are other people who do.'

Basically he goes on to explain that Michael thought Sony and his Firm were in cahoots to scheme to get his Beatles catalog. He thought that Michael understood that he needed to get better. Michael did start to get better by getting the help of Dr. Farshchian who started to wean Michael off of the drugs by putting a patch on his stomach but then Michael eventually went back on drugs.

Sorry if this all seems rambled.

Would you write a book about your best friend/father/brother/mentor and say how your friend became drug dependent? For me that's no friend. Even if it were true, I wouldn't write that and sell my book to the world to read. I would write only good things and I would be a tomb regarding PRIVATE issues of someone else other than myself. No one has the right to spread around things that don't concern them.

To me, that's no friend. Once they start speaking out about how dependent he's been, for me that's done. A true friend would never do that. Another "friend" showing him like a wreck. This will have no end.

That's garbage plain and simple. I wouldn't say that about my best friend even if paid in millions. I'm full with all his "friends". After the war everyone is hero.

You know what? No one comes and writes a book without throwing in garbage. Because garbage sells.

Just hypothetical situation: he could be a drug addict, everything he/they say, but just for the sake of making people having a good image of my friend, I would shut the fuck up.

I'm sorry for the rant.

I really do believe that Michael is in perfect agreement with every single line written in that book. It has been published for a reason and everything we read there is the honest truth.

I also agree with this. So Frank knew what Michael was fighting against:

Quote
'They are trying to fuck me.'
'Who is trying to fuck you?'
'The Firm.' He was referring to his managers. He told me to get one of them on the phone...[Frank says he shouldn't talk to anyone on this condition but he grabbed the phone]

Do you call yourself a friend when you 'produce' the first posthumous Michael Jackson album with Michael's enemies a.k.a. Sony? Yes, it's all about the money, so is this book. I don't like that kind of 'friends'.

Sorry in advance for this rather long post. But I really need to say this or else my head will explode  :o

I strongly DISAGREE with your opinion that a real friend would not do that.
IMO this book is the sacrifice of a true friend.
Frank is willing to expose the truth, even at the risk of being considered a traitor in the public opinion. And why??? Because Michael asked him to
As I said...I believe Michael is in agreement with the book. He wanted Frank to publish it. He has a message....

Don´t you think that he is fed up with being the puppet, the jumping jack, everybodys darling or somebodys demon, the angel to some, the demon to others, the dancing bear, the dazzling songbird in the gilded cage, the mystery and yet the prisoner within his own life.....
Don´t you hear him, FEEL him shouting out to you, SCREAMING his pain into your faces ….the pain, the anger, the frustration....

I really do believe that he´s hurting inside, that his heart is filled with sadness, anger, fear and pain...and yet so much love for those who are willing to really listen....And I believe that this is his message for everyone of us who wants to hear, see and FEEL: I am in pain and I needed to get away from it.... escape...forgive me because I really do love you with all my heart, but understand WHY I had to do it.

That´s why he makes so many friends speak out about his pains on his behalf: to make us all see what he was going through.
That´s the reason why he has friends and family dropping so many clues...because he wants us to know that he is alive...but he also wants understanding and forgiveness and must of all: LOVE.

What more do you need to believe.....just FEEL him behind all of this.

Oh and just to clarify: I do not believe that everyone  is instructed by him. No doubt that there are people who are just trying to make money.....

@applehead: thank you for your words. I can see that you agree with me, even thought you did not say so directly ;-)

This is Michael screaming his pain into our faces, asking for understanding, forgiveness, love....and of course exposing all the dirty, shady and evel schemes going on in so many different parts of his life and life in general. The media, showbusiness, music industry...and so on.

I believe that this is painful for him, very very painful. Even more than it is for us.
But as you said Applehead: "The MAN We thought YOU ARE,never WAS.The PEOPLE WE THOUGHT WE ARE,never were."

What other possibility does he have to open our eyes, make us feel the pain, see the truth....

You are right: we should be thankful....

Thanks for posting parts of the book. To me, the Cascios seem a family one could trust, a day by day family who have been on Michael´s side for many years and a family that Michael trusted.

Michael was a human being first and the greatest entertainer in the world the second. I believe he could drink and take a tablet after and I believe the reasons for his marriages and his concerns about his catalogue.

Thanks for posting what you are reading!

Thank you for posting these stories. The Cascios are very lucky people to have had the opportunity to know Michael the way they do.

I'd still like to know why he lied on the Oprah show.

So far my intuition has proven correct. I never thought he went into rehab because of drugs. I thought it was a ruse to get away from public eye so that they could formulate a plan for the 1st set of allegations. If Frank is telling the truth then my intuition was right.

My intuition also told me that Michael was no child molester, never broke, and never had a drug problem and was not really ill enough to be in that wheel chair in Las Vegas. I'm going to stick with my intuition until Michael comes back and I hear it from his own mouth. If he does say all of this is true it won't change my opinion of him at all. It'll only clear up a little of the fog surrounding him.

L.O.V.E. and blessings

Thanks for posting these excerpts. I think all the books that were released by those who we believe are insiders were published for a reason. Piece by piece....
Title: Re: Frank Cascio's New Book: Some Interesting Stories
Post by: MichaelsAngel on November 20, 2011, 10:05:20 PM
I finally finished the book. Here are some more excerpts:

-Despite the media thinking that the Bashir documentary destroyed Michael and that he would never recover from it, Michael was actually in great spirits and this was the first time in quite awhile that Frank had noticed Michael starting to act like his old self, was off medications, and ready to fix his financial situation. It wasn't until the actual allegations that Michael's life started to fall apart again

-Frank and Michael had a falling out after the 2005 trial because Michael believed the Frank refused to testify on his behalf. Frank was determined to find out who told Michael that as it wasn't true (Tom, Michael's lawyer, and Frank's lawyer said he didn't need to) but he never found out. Frank wonders if it was actually Michael's paranoia that caused him to come up with the idea.

-It seems that Frank complains John McClain for trying to get rid of himself and other loyal people to Michael. However, he acknowledges John Branca and Howard Weitzman for their importance to Michael and for always being there for him. Frank was also the one who suggested Michael re-hire Frank Dileo.

-Frank and Michael were just beginning to mend their relationship and at one point Michael called Frank and invited him to Ireland where he was currently recording. However, when Frank called Michael's assistant to make the plans, she said that Frank wasn't to set foot on Michael's property in Ireland or he would be arrested. Frank's father called Michael and said that after 20 yrs of friendship, this was unacceptable. Michael told him that he had no idea that had happened and eventually came to visit Frank. They had a long talk and forgave each other. Frank was actually supposed to come and work for Michael again in London during the This Is It concerts

-Frank couldn't believe that it when he heard Michael had died. At first he thought he was just trying to get out of the concerts (as he had been known to do). He also thought it was interesting because Michael had predicted that he would die from a shot, Frank just assumed he meant gunshot and not a fatal shot of propofol
"Part of me even hoped that this was another ruse of Michael's. Michael had a history of missing concert dates...But I was thinking particularly of a time in 1995, when I was fifteen. Michael was supposed to perform in a special for HBO, and I was looking forward to going to the show. But a week before the special, he said, 'Frank, I have to tell you something. The show's not going to happen.' A spiritual adviser had told him so. Indeed, just before the show, he collapsed in rehearsal. The show was canceled. Now I couldn't help hoping that this was some kind of elaborate scheme to get out of the concerts."

"So many times Michael had told me that he would die from a shot. That was always the word he used, and whenever he said it, I inevitably thought of a gunshot, but in the end he was killed by a different kind of shot. To my mind, the biggest difference between being shot and dying of an injection was that the latter involved a choice, a conscious decision. Michael had called doctors to ask for an injection on countless occasions. He had always had the option to stop this kind of shot from coming. At that moment it all seemed like such a waste to me."

-Frank debunks any notion that Michael wanted to die early. He said that Michael often talked about seeing his grandkids and watching his own kids growing up.

-This quote was so sad :(:

"[talking about Prince, Paris, and Blanket] "He [Michael] never handed off a crying child to Grace or a babysitter. He always had the patience to stay with his children until they were calm. He always took that time, no matter how late for an appointment it would cause him to be. He was never angry or frustrated. His patience was infinite, and the result was that his children were grounded, secure, and open to the world. But now, in their greatest hour of need, when he would have wanted more than anything to soothe and reassure them, he wasn't there..."
-Frank notes that Michael's death was exactly ten years, to the day, from the night of the Michael Jackson & Friends concert and ten years exactly since Frank started working for Michael

-When Frank went to visit Michael's grave site at Forest Lawn for the 1st anniversary of his death, he lifted a golden crown ontop of his tomb and saw that it held a compartment full of Bazooka bubble gum (Michael's favorite) and he said a prayer for Michael and spoke to him. Here is a quote:
"Later, people told me that as I stepped away from the tomb, they saw a white petal come floating to the ground. It wasn't a windy day, and even if it had been, we were inside a building. There were no windows or doors open. I want to believe that Michael heard me and that the petal was his way of answering. You never know."

-Frank also said that they feel Michael's presence a lot in their New Jersey home and different people have claimed to have seen Michael walking the hallways of their house.
"My mother doesn't believe in supernatural phenomena, but late one night she was in the kitchen washing dishes whe Michael walked past her and said, 'Hi, Connie.'"

-[Talking about the memorial during Reverend Al Sharpton's speech]
"As I listened to the reverend's words, I heard something of Michael's own message, and I felt his radiant spirit fill the vast stadium. I believe that there is another world after this one--whether you want to call it heaven or something else--and I believe that Michael's energy and presence were so powerful that he still has a presence, both here on Earth and in that other world, wherever it may be."

So, according to Jermaine and Frank {who I get sort of dislike each other? Or is it just Frank?} Michael is still around all his friends and family members, be it in spirit or alive  ;))

I never buy any of these books, even if I wanted to read them I probably wouldn't.
I don't usually rely on what others say about Michael, sure they may have been close to him, but how do we know it's not just lies?

Eh, I read J.Randy Taraborelli's book as an opportunity to get to know Michael better, but it was full of complete utter B.S. I guess that's why I never read these books about Michael anymore.

I understand your point of view. However, didn't Michael himself tought us only to believe about him what was coming out of his own mouth? That's why I'm having a hard time to rely on stories other people write about him. Even if they were a close friend of Michael.
How I feel about it is this: when Michael is alive, I'd rather hear him telling this stories himself (if he really wants us to know about it, he never has been open about these things in the past) or read about it in his own book. When Michael really is dead or will not come back, there is no need to 'smear' his legacy, even IF everything in the book might be true.
Maybe I'm totally wrong and this is what Michael wants, but I'm struggling with it.

Do....I do get your point here but let me ask you this: in the past...what has the majority of the public believed in: that what Michael was saying or that what others said about him?.......know what I am saying?

Yes, I understand and it is telling that we hear terrible things about his past, for instance I was flabbergasted about the Conrad Murray doc, in which CM was telling about the horrible, horrible things Joe did to Michael, even much worse then we already knew about. And I thought: is this what Michael wants us to know about his father? If so, he is litteraly accusing his father and using CM for him to do that. And if MJ really was Dave Dave, he also accused his father, saying that is was a horrible man.
My impression was always that Michael forgave Joe for everything in the past (he was saying so himself during interviews) but right now we get conflicting messages (not a surprise eh!) So, I understand what you are saying but I do find it difficult to decide what to think about it.

Understand you, too, Do but.....
If he´s right now settling accounts with people by means of this hoax and everything related to it....then I would think that he does it once and for all....relentless, brutal and explicitly.
Forgive but always remember and never forget.....and may God judge those who have done wrong to him.

Some people write books, about Michael to make money, and some are giving us hints about the hoax indirectly.. Jermaine and LaToya books should be full of hints. The Cascios, I think they are in the up and up, not sure about that. I always say you take some and you leave some, there is no harm done reading a book, than you be the judge if it is true or not.

Thank you so much MichaelsAngel, for writing this helpful summary!

MaryK, I like your thinking, on MJ's dealing with all the people in his life, which reminds me of that line in Threatened, about execution night.
MJ as a spirit is mentioned in this song as well.  Looking forward to reading more of your posts in the future!

(Sorry somehow it makes the normal typed song pattern appear all together like this. )

Quote
Threatened

[ROD SERLING INTRO]
[/size]Tonight’s story is somewhat unique and calls for a different kind of introductionA monster had arrived in the villageThe major ingredient of any recipe for fear is the unknownAnd this person or thing is soon to be metHe knows every thought, he can feel every emotionOh yes, I did forget something didn’t I? I forgot to introduce you to the monster.

You’re fearing me, ‘cause you know I’m a beastWatching you when you sleep, when you’re in bedI’m underneathYou’re trapped in halls, and my face is the wallsI’m the floor when you fall, and when you scream it’s ‘cause of meI’m the living dead, the dark thoughts in your headI heard just what you saidThat’s why you’ve got to be threatened by me

[CHORUS]You should be watching me, you should feel threatenedWhy you sleep, why you creep, you should be threatenedEvery time your lady speaks she speaks to me, threatenedHalf of me you’ll never be, so you should feel threatened by me

You think you’re by yourself, but it’s my touch you feltI’m not a ghost from Hell, but I’ve got a spell on youYour worst nightmare, it's me, I'm everywhereIn one blink I’ll disappear, and then I’ll come back to haunt youI’m telling you, when you lie under a tombI’m the one watching youThat’s why you got to be threatened by me
[CHORUS][ROD SERLING VERSE]The unknown monster is about to embarkFrom a far corner, out of the darkA nightmare, that’s the caseNever Neverland, that’s the placeThis particular monster can read mindsBe in two places at the same timeThis is judgement night, execution, slaughterThe devil, ghosts, this monster is tortureYou can be sure of one thing, that’s fateA human presence that you feel is strangeA monster that you can see disappearA monster, the worst thing to fear.

[CHORUS x 3][ROD SERLING OUTRO]What you have just witnessed could be the end of a particularly terrifying nightmare. It isn’t. It’s the beginning.

@MJonmind: thank you very much  :)

Yes, I really think that he is fed up with ONLY being the kind-hearted, patient and harmless guy.
For everyone there comes a time in life when one needs to vouch for himself/herself....at this point one must stop enduring hurt, pain, insult and slander in silence.....and speak out and answer back.
In that case beloved Bambi might very well turn into the big bad wolf  ;)
Who´s bad...... mj_bad/

I love this book. I'm only a bit over half way through it, but this book humanizes Michael in the reader's eyes. We see Michael the person, not Michael the superstar through Frank's experiences with his friend. At times just a couple of regular guys kicking back, goofing off, and having fun albeit in the middle of extraordinary settings and circumstances.
One line jumped out at me when Michael, Frank and a plane full of other big stars were making their way back from Korea, MJ addressed everyone from the front of the plane telling them all to relax and enjoy themselves. Not to worry cause he wasn't going to die in a plane crash he was going to die from a shot.  8-) Obviously he knew......not a gun shot....a drug shot.
Best MJ book I have read to date. Brilliant job Frank. I can see why Michael liked to hang out with you. You are cool.
