Title: Gilda
Post by: cawobeth on February 09, 2010, 12:34:40 PM
...thought there was a Gilda section here ? So, don't scold me if I dbld subject...
couldn't find one.
I'm fascinated by symbolism. Familiar w/the story...I found other stuff. Though maybe not purposeful, interesting, just the same - - -

The name Gilda means sacrifice.
Consider a line in the song Gilda sings "put the blame on me, boys" hmmm..
wonder what boys "she" refers to.
A single glove that's tossed out & away - - -
Mame,or Mamie are considered derivatives of Mary & Margaret
Mary, of course meaning love, beloved, mother, wished for child and also sweet bitterness & rebelliousness.
Margaret means pearl; generally white & opalescent signifying light from above.
All color pearls have the spirit of faith, charity & innocence; nick-named the stone of sincerity.
The Pearl portrays two contrasting forces that shape human life and determine individual destiny.

There's a scene in "Gilda", where the main character turns to her maid and says, "I have a funny feeling that this is it."

OK, being a singer and somewhat of an opera buff, the first thing I thought of when I saw the name Gilda was the opera by Verdi entitled Rigoletto.
The wiki link follows:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rigoletto (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rigoletto)

In the opera the daughter of the jester Rigoletto (Gilda) is captivated by this new found man who seduces her named Gualtier Malde.
Here's her aria talking about her undying love for him.

Any parallels, or am I just crazy?
