Title: Investigating doctors - the British way
Post by: QuirkyDiana on March 04, 2010, 03:08:05 PM
Here is a recent example of a doctor being suspended while his case is investigated. He is charged with prescribing to family and friends, and falsifying names on prescriptions.

I think you'll agree that his crimes pale in comparison to Murray's. So why, at least, has Murray not been suspended from practising. In the words of a GMC spokeswoman, “It is a measure the GMC can impose on a doctor’s registration when it may be in the best interest of the public safety and health.”

Is the law in CA different? Also, why was he not appropriately handcuffed?

This is what i dont understand... in the UK, any professional..  nurse, doctor, police, fire, etc.. is automatically suspended whist any investigation of misconduct is processed.
This is because, even though they may be innocent... it protects the public and the authorities if something else should happen whilst that investigation is ongoing.

It baffles me why Dr Murray is still allowed to practice whilst under investigation for 3rd degree murder of one of his patients.
