Some facts on Diana Ross

  • on: September 06, 2010, 08:52:41 PM
I was looking at her Wikipedia page today and noticed some things that aren't often discussed:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diana_Ross

Here's a collection of facts that I hope you'll find interesting:

1. Diana was born in a Baptist family, the second of 6 children.
2. She aspired to be a fashion designer.
3. Diana has an older sister, Barbara, who is a doctor, and was appointed Dean of the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1993, becoming the first African-American woman to administer a medical school in the United States.
4. Diana married music business manager Robert Ellis Silberstein in January 1971. Daughter Rhonda Suzanne Silberstein was born on August 13, 1971; Rhonda's biological father is Berry Gordy.  [So Rhonda was presumably conceived in Nov. 1970.]
5. Ross and Silberstein had two daughters: Tracee Joy Silberstein, born October 29, 1972 (now known as Tracee Ellis Ross) and Chudney Lane Silberstein, born November 4, 1975 (now known as Chudney Ross).  Ross and Robert Silberstein divorced in March 1977.
6. Ross’s brother, Arthur "T-Boy" Ross, was a songwriter for Motown; he co-wrote, “I Want You”, recorded by Marvin Gaye in 1976.  Arthur and his wife, Patricia Ann Robinson, were murdered in June 1996.  They were discovered in a dank basement, bound and gagged, after next-door neighbors contacted police regarding a foul odor coming from a run-down house in Oak Park, Michigan - a northern suburb bordering Detroit.  Police estimated that the bodies had been there for several days. The Ross family posted a $25,000 reward for any information related to the murders, but to date, the crime is unsolved.
7. Ross became a grandmother in the summer of 2009, when her daughter, Rhonda, gave birth to a boy.

I think there are some clear parallels between Diana and MJ (large family, poor and religious background, love of music and fashion...) but it's also interesting to be reminded that Diana had 3 kids between 1970-75 (when MJ was aged 12-17), one of them being with Berry Gordy (who was part of the Motown family and close to MJ).  Diana was also married between 1971-77, and in late 1984 she married the Norwegian guy, Arne.  These are some of the reasons that I don't believe her relationship with MJ was ever romantic/sexual... Michael saw her "fooling around" with other men, as he himself said on the Glenda tapes (which I believe to be authentic).  Diana is also said to have dated Gene Simmons for 5 years...

That's OK, dominque, you can ignore the info... But people on this board are of different ages, and different levels of knowledge/experience... And sometimes information gains new significance when seen in a different light.  I myself read all this a long time ago and didn't think much of the unsolved murder involving DR's brother and her sister-in-law, but after reading more about stuff that goes on in the music industry (Rihanna, Jennifer Hudson, Eminem etc), I'm looking at this in a different light, and thinking hmm... I just like to go over old information sometimes, and look at it with new eyes, and re-process it.  (Not to mention that I forget stuff, LOL.)
