1000 Dead Birds Fall From Sky

  • on: January 03, 2011, 01:37:33 AM
I just saw this on the internet now...it's kind of freaking me out.  More than 1000 dead black birds fell out of the sky over a city in Arkansas on New Year's eve, around 11:30 p.m.

This is just too weird...another strange coincidence...what does it mean?

Here's one of the articles on it:

More than 1,000 dead birds fall from sky in Ark.

BEEBE, Ark. — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission said Saturday more than 1,000 dead blackbirds fell from the sky in Beebe.

The agency said its enforcement officers began receiving reports about the dead birds about 11:30 p.m. Friday. The birds fell over a one-mile area of the city, and an aerial survey indicated that no other dead birds were found outside of that area, officials said.

Robby King, a wildlife officer for the agency, collected about 65 dead birds, which will be sent for testing to the state Livestock and Poultry Commission lab and the National Wildlife Health Center lab in Madison, Wis.

Commission ornithologist Karen Rowe said that similar events have occurred elsewhere and that test results "usually were inconclusive."

The birds showed physical trauma, said Rowe, who surmised that "the flock could have been hit by lightning or high-altitude hail."

The agency also said another possibility is that New Year's Eve revelers shooting off fireworks in the area could have startled the birds from their roost and caused them to die from stress.

It's doubtful the birds were poisoned, Rowe said, "since it only involved a flock of blackbirds and only involved them falling out of the sky." She said a necropsy is the only way to determine if the birds were poisoned.

The city of Beebe hired U.S. Environmental Services to clean up and dispose of the dead birds.

Dead fish cover 20-miles of Arkansas River
Katherina- Marie Yancy     3 hrs ago

Arkansas Game & Fish is trying to figure out why 100,000 fish in Northwest Arkansas turned up dead. They were found along a 20-mile stretch between the Ozark Dam and Highway 109 Bridge in Franklin County.

The 20-mile stretch along the Arkansas River where an estimated 100,000 drum fish were found washed ashore and floating looks much different now.

Keith Stephens with Game and Fish explains, "We got a call last week from a tug boat operator that found the fish out on the river along the bank, in the river channel and we immediately dispatched somebody to the area to take a look."

Investigators from local and state agencies took samples from the affected area. Stephens says fish kills occur every year, but the magnitude of this one is unusual, and disease could be the cause.

A pollutant would have affected cross species. Stephens says, "Ninety-nine percent of them were Drum, which is a bottom feeder. It's not a game fish in Arkansas."

Some fish collected were alive and visibly sick. They have been taken to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff for testing.

The affected area was never closed and fishing is encouraged. "Right now it's fine to fish. If you go out there you can still fish for bass and crappie, catfish, it will be fine. Obviously don't' eat the dead fish."

As for clean up, nature is taking its course. "We'll have raccoon and birds and things like that will take care of it so there is really no clean up, it's really too big. It's contained along the river channel."

Officials expect to have an exact estimate on how many fish died by Monday. They will release the test results as soon as they get them.

The Arkansas Game & Fish Commission is also investigating thousands of dead birds in Beebe.

Update: Thousands of birds fall from the sky in Beebe (Arkansas)
Ashley Blackstone  Katherina- Marie Yancy     1 day ago

Just before folks in Beebe rang in the New Year, many witnessed an uncanny resemblance to the Hitchcock movie "The Birds." About 2,000 black birds fell from the sky off Windwood Drive, leaving quite the mess to clean up.

Folks Today's THV spoke with initially thought the birds were poisoned because they are what they call a nuisance around this time every year, but they are surprised to hear it is more of a mystery.

Stephen Bryant recalls, "Millions, millions fly over every night. You look up at the sky and it's just black and then last night at about 10:30 I came out here and saw a bird drop."

In a matter of hours on New Years Eve thousands of birds fell from the sky to their death.

Melissa Weatherly says, "I immediately called mom because I had to go to work, I said you have to come get the kids and get the dog because I don't know what's going on." She continues, "It was horrible; you could not even get down the road without running over hundreds. It was that bad."

The mystery is unraveling like scenes from a movie, dozens of U.S. Environmental Services crews spent the day picking up the birds, walking between homes and climbing on roofs with protective hazmat suits and breathing masks,.

Charles Boldrey stands outside watching the crews, "Nobody knows, I asked these guys who are out here picking them up and they don't seem to know anything. Nobody seems to know anything. It just kind of freaked everybody out."

Officials with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission flew over the area and determined it's a one mile stretch. There are a variety of dead black birds, mostly red winged and a duck was also found.

No one has been evacuated because the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) air test came back clean for toxins.

Weatherly is skeptical, "They're walking around in masks and I'm wandering do we need the same thing because what makes that happen for them to drop out of the sky like that."

Katherina Yancy with Today's THV found one bird still living. It was confused, injured, continuously walked in circles and didn't make a sound or attempt to fly.

Officials will confirm their findings when they get the test results, until then they are giving these possible scenarios: lightning, stress, high altitude hail or startled by fireworks, but neighbors just want answers.

Bryant says, "Something out of a movie and Hazmat people are walking around not telling us anything."

Boldrey adds, "I'd like to know. Kind of spooky, you never know what's going to happen."

The birds should be cleaned up by Sunday. Game and Fish Commission's Karen Rowe says poisoning doesn't appear to be the case and strange events similar to this have occurred across the globe a number of times.

The City of Beebe held an emergency city council meeting Saturday morning to approve paying the U.S. Environmental Services to clean the neighborhood.

Sixty-five dead birds have been sent to off for testing.

Very strange story. Especially with 11:30, and Ark. One commenter asked-- wasn't the Beatles song about blackbirds falling in the dead of night, but it's
Quote
"Blackbird"
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Black bird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
all your life
you were only waiting for this moment to be free

Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise,
You were only waiting for this moment to arise,
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

This also reminds me of the movie "The Core" 2003 where I remember at the beginning (it's very dramatic) birds (I think black) fall from the sky by the thousands in about a similar mile area, the first sign of something wrong with the electromagnetic part of earth that birds need to navigate.

Quote
"After a series of strange events (including birds falling) over the world connected by variances in the Earth's electromagnetic field, leading geology expert Dr. Josh Keyes (Aaron Eckhart), a University of Chicago professor, teams with Serge Leveque (Tchéky Karyo) and Conrad Zimsky (Stanley Tucci) to learn that the rotation of Earth's molten core is slowing down, leading eventually to the collapse of the electromagnetic field which will expose the surface to the Sun's lethal radiation. The three develop a top-secret plan with the United States government to bore into the Earth's core and plant a series of nuclear charges at precise points to restart the core's motion and restore the field."
"Destini" in the movie reminds me of "HAARP". Unfortunately this trailer doesn't show the birds falling part.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Core_(film)
[youtube:yw16ypet]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foAyvN6mVwQ[/youtube:yw16ypet]
This is one commenter after The Core trailer.

Arkansas
The name "Arkansas" derives from the same root as the name for the state of Kansas. The Kansas tribe of Native Americans are closely associated with the Sioux tribes of the Great Plains. The word "Arkansas" itself is a French pronunciation ("Arcansas") of a Quapaw (a related "Kaw" tribe) word "akakaze" meaning "land of downriver people" or the Sioux word "Akakaze" meaning "people of the south wind".
http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arkansas

The Wizard of Oz
Dorothy: [has just arrived in Oz, looking around and awed at the beauty and splendor] Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas any more.
Dorothy: [after a pause] We must be over the rainbow!
[a bubble appears in the sky and gets closer and closer. It finally lands, then turns into Glinda the Good Witch wearing a spectacular white dress and crown, holding a wand]
Dorothy: [to Toto] Now I... I know we're not in Kansas!
http://http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0032138/quotes

South wind
In Greek mythology, Notus was the god of the south wind and bringer of the storms of late summer and autumn.
http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_wind

Notus
Notus was the Greek god of the south wind. He was associated with the desiccating hot wind of the rise of Sirius after midsummer, was thought to bring the storms of late summer and autumn, and was feared as a destroyer of crops.
http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anemoi

Sirius
Sirius, known in Ancient Egypt as Sopdet (Greek: Sothis), is recorded in the earliest astronomical records. During the era of the Middle Kingdom, Egyptians based their calendar on the heliacal rising of Sirius, namely the day it becomes visible just before sunrise after moving far enough away from the glare of the Sun. This occurred just before the annual flooding of the Nile and the summer solstice, after a 70-day absence from the skies. The hieroglyph for Sothis features a star and a triangle. Sothis (Sirius) was identified with the great goddess Isis, who formed a part of a trinity with her husband Osiris and their son Horus, while the 70-day period symbolised the passing of Isis and Osiris through the duat (Egyptian underworld).

Roseville is where the fish washed up.
Ville means city or town

Rose
The ancient Romans identified the rose and its natural beauty with Venus, their goddess of sensual love. In Greek mythology, their goddess of love, Aphrodite, gave the rose its name, but their goddess of flowers, Chloris, created it. One day in the forest, Chloris found the lifeless body of a beautiful nymph. Chloris turned her into a flower. Aphrodite offered beauty to the flower; Dionysus, the god of wine, gave her a sweet scent; and Zephyr, the West Wind, blew away all the clouds so Apollo, the sun god, could shine on this rose and make it bloom.

Christians adopted the red rose as a symbol of the blood of the Christian martyrs. The white rose came to be associated with purity, specifically the virginity and innocence of the Virgin Mary. Popular literature claims that before the rose became a flower of the earth, it grew in Paradise without thorns. The thorns came after Adam and Eve were banished from Eden to remind humans of their sins and their fall from grace. The rose’s fragrance and beauty remain, supposedly to remind humans of the splendor they lost. In reference to this legend the Virgin Mary is called a “rose without thorns” because she was free from original sin.
http://http://www.suite101.com/content/christian-flower-symbol-a69020

The rose is also a symbol of Christ who is called the Rose of Sharon.

Song of Solomon 2:1
I am the rose of Sharon,
And the lily of the valleys.
http://http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=solomon%202:1&version=NKJV

Roseville is in Logan County - Logan means "Little Hollow"
http://http://www.behindthename.com/name/logan
which is a valley like area between two mountains or hills, often with a corresponding stream of waterway running down. There may be pastures or long open spaces between the hills.
http://http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080216130153AAXRoOA

And the main towns of this area where government etc are located is Booneville and Paris.
http://http://encyclopediaofarkansas.net/encyclopedia/entry-detail.aspx?entryID=786

Maybe just some weird coincidences.

I cannot believe that so many birds and fish died because of fireworks or thunderstorms...complete 2 different things>>>birds in the air and fish in the water (duh). It was different if only birds died, but so many fish too! There is something more going on.

This freaks me out to no end. Trying to imagine it has me on edge.  I actually saw a picture I wanted to post here but I can't do it -- I had to turn away in fright.  I am freaked!  I read about the birds over the weekend and  became completely alarmed especially because no other type of bird fell from the sky.  Whenever I see a dead bird it's eerie to me.  Dead anything but especially birds for some reason.   And,  to imagine 5000 falling from the sky and scattered along the roadway and in people's yards close to midnight before a new year?   Bad omen.

Also, with the 100,000 fish, if it was just toxins, why did it only kill one type of fish and not other types?

This, along with the fact that bees and frogs are disappearing, less and less birds are migrating, makes me very nervous but we must take heed for this is the
'canary in the mine' trying to wake us up (again!)

I don't know if this was ever brought up but back in May a grey whale was spotted off the coast of Israel.  It had not happened since the 17th or early 18th century and before that when God had Jonah swallowed by a "great fish".

The animal behaviors are changing and if these birds have a contagious disease....well...pestilence and plagues and then the animals turn on us.

They said autopsies on 17 of the birds revealed they died from blunt force trauma to the organs in mid air.  WHA?
Ok, the metereologist says it could have been hail or lightening or tornados over that area during that time.  That makes sense, I guess (well- the bunt force trauma would then be to the hody as well, not just the organs, right?).  Lightening: would they not be burned?
Sounds to me like some kind of extreme pressure change like tornadic activity would be the most likely explanation.

Just hearing about this is freaking me out!  I live in the southern part of Missouri which is right above Arkansas.  They had this on the news and people down here are very worried.  Some of our grocery stores are starting to run out of food and water because people are thinking this is the start of the end of times.  I am trying not to worry too much!  Just yesterday, I was watching Nostridaumus 2012 and then seeing that on the news really got me to thinking.  I have put all my trust in God and pray that he will lead me in the right direction.  The one that is right for my family and myself.

Small earthquake recorded near Guy in central Ark.
Associated Press - December 13, 2010 10:14 AM ET

GUY, Ark. (AP) - Several small earthquakes have been recorded near Guy in central Arkansas by the U.S. Geological Survey.

The survey's website reports a 3.1 magnitude quake about 1 a.m. Monday near the town about 40 miles north of Little Rock, a 2.7 magnitude quake about 3:45 a.m. and a 2.3 magnitude quake just before 7 a.m. A 2.1 magnitude and two 2.2 magnitude quakes were recorded in the same area Sunday morning.

No injuries or damage have been reported.

About 30 small earthquakes have been recorded in the area this month by the survey. The largest was a magnitude 3.9 on Nov. 20.

Small earthquake recorded in NE Arkansas
By The Associated Press December 15, 2010

ROOKLAND, Ark. — The U.S. Geological Survey has recorded a small earthquake near Brookland in northeastern Arkansas.

No damage or injuries are reported.

The survey website reports the preliminary magnitude 2.1 earthquake was recorded at 9:19 p.m. Tuesday. The epicenter was about four miles south of Brookland and about six miles northeast of Jonesboro.

The area is in the New Madrid seismic zone that stretches from Arkansas to southern Illinois. Some of the largest earthquakes to strike the continental United States occurred in the New Madrid zone in the winter of 1811 to 1812.

Arkansas Earthquakes
In Guy, Ark., numerous earthquakes have been reported. The Arkansas Geological Survey is trying to unravel the seemingly mysterious cause of the quakes.

The small community of Guy has 549 residents and is north of Little Rock. It has experienced an almost constant shaking from a large series of measurable earthquakes, since September 20, 2010. The last reportednumber of quakes during that period was 487.

In one morning alone, the area had 15 quakes[/color] including a 3.1-magnitude as reported from Geohazards supervisor for the GeologicalSurvey, Scott Ausbrooks.

Most people don't think of Arkansas when earthquakes come to mind. Although earthquakes are not unusual in the Southeast state, the current frequency is unusual.

"This time last year we had 39 quakes total for the entire state," said Ausbrooks, according to information from the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Ausbrooks says the state Geological Survey has no idea whether the current swarm is a natural or manmade event, but his office is seriously exploring the latter. "We see no relation to the drilling in the area, but we haven't ruled out a connection to the salt water disposal wells," he said.

Ausbrooks said drillers inject wastewater into the earth at high pressure, and in the area around the town, the disposal wells go as deep as 12,000 feet. He points to incidents in Colorado in the 1960s at Rocky Mountain Arsenal, where deep water injection was tied to earthquakes.

New Madrid Seismic Zone
The New Madrid Seismic Zone, sometimes called the New Madrid Fault Line, is a major seismic zone and a prolific source of intraplate earthquakes (earthquakes within a tectonic plate) in the southern and midwestern United States, stretching to the southwest from New Madrid, Missouri.

The New Madrid fault system was responsible for the 1811–1812 New Madrid earthquakes and may have the potential to produce large earthquakes in the future. Since 1812 frequent smaller earthquakes were recorded in the area.

Earthquakes that occur there potentially threaten parts of seven U.S. states: Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi.
