Libya - Civil War or Something Else?
March 21, 2011, 04:57:54 PM
The UN passed Resolution 1973 on March 17, 2011 to address events that were occurring in Libya.

First what does this resolution state?

United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973
* demands the immediate establishment of a ceasefire and a complete end to violence and all attacks against, and abuses of, civilians;
* imposes a no-fly zone over Libya;
* authorises all necessary means to protect civilians and civilian-populated areas, except for a "foreign occupation force";
* strengthens the arms embargo and particularly action against mercenaries, by allowing for forcible inspections of ships and planes;
* imposes a ban on all Libyan-designated flights;
* imposes an asset freeze on assets owned by the Libyan authorities, and reaffirms that such assets should be used for the benefit of the Libyan people;
* extends the travel ban and assets freeze of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1970 to a number of additional individuals and Libyan entities;
* establishes a panel of experts to monitor and promote sanctions implementation.

The bolded portion in the above resolution is what is really concerning as this has not been defined.this section is both a catch all and gives the ability to do whatever TPTB choose to do.

The US is currently heading the UN Coalition and at first it was stated that they would do so for only days, Obama has now stated today that it will be now be "several days" and military sources are reporting "weeks".

Originally, the media was reporting that the US would be handing over the command of the coalition to other members and that Arab members would be taking part. The only Arab country that has signed on to the coalition is Qatar but they have not participated. The Arab league is now voicing concer (and some countries may be withdrawing support) about what is taking place in Libya and that the "mission" has gone beyond the scope of UN resolution 1973.

Yesterday, both the Pentagon and the white house stated that the US was not targeting Qaddafi. One military representative stated on CNN last evening that Qaddafi was not a target but if he happened to be a building the US was targeting...

Within hours of these statements, Qaddafi's compound (residence) was targeted and destroyed.

Gaddafi’s compound destroyed in air strike; Libyan military announce cease-fire
A three-storey building in a military command centre used by Muammar Gaddafi has been destroyed in an air strike by coalition forces. The Sunday-night strike was the first reported attack on the Bab al-Azizia, a sprawling compound in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, that Gaddafi has used several times as a setting for televised addresses, and which was bombed by the United States in 1986.

Today, President Obama stated, in a speech from Brazil: U.S. policy recognizes that “Gadhafi needs to go,” the president said, noting “a wide range of tools in addition to our military efforts to support that policy.”  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Removing Qaddafi from the position of power he has held for 42 years is beyond the scope of UN Resolution 1973.

Further, the US Congress WAS NOT consulted before the airstrikes where undertaken by the US against Libya. The majority of Congress also voted to take a week "spring break" this week so Congressmen have returned to their constituents which has prevented Congress from taking any action in this regards. Obama is presently on a South American trip...how convenient!

In case you are not aware, the President of the US can not undertake this type of military action without consultation and approval of the Congress.

The War Powers Resolution of 1973
was a United States Congress joint resolution providing that the President can send U.S. armed forces into action abroad only by authorization of Congress or if the United States is already under attack or serious threat. The War Powers Resolution requires the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30 day withdrawal period, without an authorization of the use of military force or a declaration of war.

United States Constitution Article I Section 10
No state shall, without the consent of Congress, lay any duty of tonnage, keep troops, or ships of war in time of peace, enter into any agreement or compact with another state, or with a foreign power, or engage in war, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent danger as will not admit of delay.

The Congress was not consulted, the congress did not authorize this military action, the US was not under attack by Libya nor was the US under any serious threat by Libya. This action is illegal and counter to the US Constitution!

Rep. Allen West: Congress Not Consulted Before U.S. Attack on Libya
West says that as a member of the House Armed Services Committee and considering his lengthy military background he should have been consulted before we started a new combat front with Libya. Instead, he says, Congress was sent home to their districts and the next thing you know is that the US is engaged militarily with Libya.

WEST: Well first of all I can’t tell you what the mission is; I don’t think anyone knows what the mission is. When we say were going to go in and protect civilians, that’s going to be very hard to do from thirty thousand feet.

Should Congress Have Been Consulted Re: Libya?
But some members of Congress, from both parties, see the attacks as an unlawful breach of Congress’ power to declare war, and some are going as far as calling for impeachment.

The whole premise of attacking Libya has come from "protecting citizens from their own Government" but we do not see similar actions being undertaken in Bahrain, Yemen and other countries, yet these Governments are also killing their own people whom are protesting against the Government.
We must ask ourselves, why Libya and not other countries?

Yemen is a US Ally.
Bahrain is a US Ally.
Libya is not...

Libya's Oil, Natural Gas and Water
Oil reserves in Libya are the largest in Africa and the ninth largest in the world. Libya is considered a highly attractive oil area due to its low cost of oil production (as low as $1 per barrel at some fields), and proximity to European markets. Most of Libya remains unexplored as a result of past sanctions and disagreements with foreign oil companies.

Oil
The oil industry is of vital importance to the Libyan economy, and is supervised by the National Oil Corporation (NOC), which was established in 1968 with a brief to manage upstream and down-stream affairs. Partial nationalization in 1973 has led NOC to participate in many production-sharing agreements with foreign firms, and the withdrawal of US companies from Libya has
opened the door to further European investment.

Natural Gas
Natural gas production is also a priority for the Libyans, as it will enable more oil to be exported and will also, in itself, prove a ready commodity for export. Indeed, while Libya's natural gas reserves of 1.31 trillion cubic metres (tcm) is in itself impressive, some Libyan commentators put the actual reserves much higher. New, large-scale discoveries are being made, and these come at a good time for the Libyans. Natural gas consumption has been rising at an estimated 10 per cent annually since 1990 and, as well as using gas in oil production, it is increasingly being used in the petro- chemical and electricity sectors as an alternative fuel source.

Water
Launched in 1984, the GMR is essentially a water transportation project that aims to carry water from Saharan wells through around 4000 km of pipes (themselves 13 ft in diameter) to coastal areas, providing water mainly for irrigation and industry. The Project has five phases, of which phases 1 and 2 are underway, with a third in progress, which will involve the construction of 1,000 km of pipeline. This will effectively link Phases 1 and 2, which were geared towards the extraction of water and its movement, aided by gravity, towards the coastal regions (although Phase 1 has supplied Benghazi with drinking water since 1994). Pumping stations will, in the main, take the form of boosters, aimed at keeping the flow of water at a steady rate. The overall cost of the GMR project is estimated at $30 bn, although a tight spending budget for 1999 and reduced spending on investment projects may temporarily delay the next phase of construction.

This is not just about Oil/Natural Gas/Water in itself but we must realize that these resources are a means to power and control of the world's populations. It is also about leaders who will not "play nicely" with the NWO. (Qaddafi, Chavez etc.) It is about destabilization of the world's economies, creating war and unrest, propagating fear, having us kill one another, and control, control, control.

We should also ask ourselves, who are the Rebels in Libya?
Are they just Libyan civilians or is there another faction involved here?
Libya is also made up of tribes and removing Qaddafi could destabilize the area further because these different tribal groups Do Not Agree.

The US is meddling and most likely involved in creating the unrest in Libya and the Middle East in general. There is more going on here than the US propaganda (media) machine is telling us and this situation appears to be escalating.

It is time to wake up you and the entire world are being lied to and manipulated...once again!

I thought you wouldn't post here anymore SD? And I also don't think we have discussed the previous fall-out yet. I haven't seen an email from you yet. Deactivated again until you grow the balls to email me first before you come in under another username.
