Billie Jean
December 25, 2009, 06:48:08 AM

She was more like a beauty queen
From a movie scene
I said, don't mind
But what do you mean
I am the one
Who will dance on the floor, in the round'
She says, 'I am the one who will dance
On the floor in the round'

She told me her name was Billie Jean
As she caused a scene
Then every head turned with eyes
That dreamed of being the one
Who will dance on the floor, in the round

People always told me,
Be careful of what you do
And don't go around
Breaking young girls' hearts
And mother always told me,
Be careful of who you love
And be careful what you do
Cause the lie becomes the truth

Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that
I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one
But the kid is not my son

For forty days and forty nights
I was on her side
But who can stand
When she's in demand
Her schemes and plans
Cause we danced on the floor, in the round
So take my strong advice
Just remember to always think twice
(Do think twice)
Do think twice
Hooo

She told my baby
We danced till three
And she looked at me
Then showed a photo
My baby cried
His eyes were like mine
Can we dance on the floor, in the round, babe

People always told me,
Be careful of what you do
And don't go around
Breaking young girls' hearts'
(Don't break no hearts)

But you came and stood right by me
Just a smell of sweet perfume
This happened much too soon
She called me to her room

Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that
I am the one
But the kid is not my son
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no

Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that
I am the one
But the kid is not my son
No, no
She says I am the one
(Oh, babe)
But the kid is not my son

He, he, he
Hoo!
Hoo!

She says I am the one
But the kid is not my son
No, no, no
Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that
I am the one
(You know what you did to me, babe)
But the kid is not my son
No, no, no, no
No, no

She says I am the one
But the kid is not my son

No, no

She says I am the one
You know what you did
She says he is my son
Breaking my heart, babe
She says I am the one

Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover

Freddie and I had discussions about it for hours, I won't bother you with it all and it took me some time so see, but in short it could be possible that he means this by it:

Who is the kid on the photo?
'His eyes were like mine', 'But the kid is not my son'. So the kid is Mike himself.

Who is Billie Jean?
Billie Jean is the public, the world. The public chose him to 'dance in the round', since he was a kid. The public is also in demand, they want new music, they want him to dance and sing and make music. The public also lies, we have seen enough examples through the years of lies about him. But his mother also says: "Don't go around breakin' young girls' hearts", because the public is also his fans. Which could mean that in some of his lyrics where he mentions a 'girl' he could also mean 'the public' or 'the fans'.

It's just a smart part of what we discussed, but with this and after S.T.U.D.Y.'s posts concerning TIAI, I think we can strip more of his songs, especially from thr BAD-era until Invincible, because he became more political from that time on.

I wonder what you guys come up with!

  Lady, I'm falling out of my chair!

This could be a reason why I thought this song didn't make clear sense. When I listen to a song I try to imagine it in my head as a movie, but this song doesn't come together clearly. If you compare it to Beat It, that song has pretty clear message and video, but Billy Jean is abstract.

Indeed Michael is talking to us through his songs and sometimes we have to read between the lines.
In this same song I just wanted to point out the sentence "cause the lie becomes the truth" as Michael omitted to pronounce it in TII rehearsal while perfoming Billy Jean. It was surely to highlight it. The lie has really became the truth nowadays and as I like to say to tell the truth has become a revolutionary act. People have even been killed to have told the truth. That's why this sentence is very important.
Nevertheless the Truth always prevails thanks to God.

God Bless you.

I love MJ

We are here for you Michael and will always love you whatever happens.

actually beat it doesnt make sense either because at one point he is like "just beat and it and run" then towards the end he is like saying just do it and not be scared...

[2nd Verse]
You Better Run, You Better Do What You Can
Don't Wanna See No Blood, Don't Be A Macho Man
You Wanna Be Tough, Better Do What You Can
So Beat It, But You Wanna Be Bad

here he is saying run

[4th Verse]
You Have To Show Them That You're Really Not Scared
You're Playin' With Your Life, This Ain't No Truth Or Dare
They'll Kick You, Then They Beat You,
Then They'll Tell You It's Fair
So Beat It, But You Wanna Be Bad

here is saying show them you not scared...but earlier he said not be macho and no he is saying be macho..this dont make sense...lol

Your right! Your right! I did notice that. I think the story is more clear and easier to take as is. The gang thing is easier to see, and the song is easy to conform to that idea. But who ever he is struggling against is probaly like a ganster organization.

It seems that the story is that he needs to run away from these people because they are dangerous. He even knows that blood will be spilled if he associates with them. The smart the to do is to run away.

The world he is entering or lives in is treacherous. Life or death. Showing fear is not an option. They will kick as a warning. Then beat you. When their done with you, they'll tell you it was fair. As if they have the right, like the own you (slave).

By saying that he is playing with his life, it's seem like their is a way out or that submission is the best course. Like whatever he's going to do, either fightback or building his own dominance, will cause a marked difference in the life he lead before.
Yet, even in his making power-plays, gaining dominance/independance, they still have the power to met out punishment (kick you, then they beat you). They can even assault and batter someone, as if police authorities won't be able to help you(tell you it's fair.

So the song is about a struggle between continued submission/getting out (beat it) or taking an offensive stance against them (show them how funky, strong is your fight).

You another that bothered me is in this song, Dirty Diana, and Dangerous, it's obvious he's is fooling around with the villianess of the song. It also, show that he has a girlfriend or wife already.

Quote
She told my baby
We danced till three
And she looked at me
Then showed a photo
My baby cried
His eyes were like mine
Can we dance on the floor, in the round, babe

Even thought the villaness cause him trouble and heartache, he goes back to her.

Quote
But I loved it, cause it's Dangerous

So, he laments these woman, yet was fooling around, cheating, and loves it. What's up with that?  :?  I just thought he was a groupie-sex slut. Maybe his songs have more meaning than that. ;)

Maybe the woman is the fans and some of the public. The villian shows hurtful pictures and say lying things that make his baby cry.

Okay this could be quite far-fetched but you know Come together lyrics

      Come together, right now
      Over me

And you know the saying over my dead body

So could that be some kind of clue? I mean he clearly wants us to come together as an army of L.O.V.E, but since he is not dead, we can't come together over his dead body, so we'll just come together over him.

Just a thought...

Except MJ only covered that song not wrote it!! The Beatles did it before MJ. I think anything going  this far back means nothing imo....

Quote from: "~Souza~"
First of all thank you Freddie01 for showing me how to strip lyrics, which made me think of giving this it's own category. This new forum category is to make you reread all the lyrics again to see what he could have meant by them. As he says himself in This Is It, "That's why I write these kind of songs, you know. To give some sense of awareness and awakening and hope to people."

Freddie showed me how to strip Billie Jean, and I think he has a great theory with this. Let me first show you the lyrics:

She was more like a beauty queen
From a movie scene
I said, don't mind
But what do you mean
I am the one
Who will dance on the floor, in the round'
She says, 'I am the one who will dance
On the floor in the round'

She told me her name was Billie Jean
As she caused a scene
Then every head turned with eyes
That dreamed of being the one
Who will dance on the floor, in the round

People always told me,
Be careful of what you do
And don't go around
Breaking young girls' hearts
And mother always told me,
Be careful of who you love
And be careful what you do
Cause the lie becomes the truth

Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that
I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one
But the kid is not my son

For forty days and forty nights
I was on her side
But who can stand
When she's in demand
Her schemes and plans
Cause we danced on the floor, in the round
So take my strong advice
Just remember to always think twice
(Do think twice)
Do think twice

She told my baby

And she looked at me
Then showed a photo
My baby cried
His eyes were like mine
Can we dance on the floor, in the round, babe

People always told me,
Be careful of what you do
And don't go around
Breaking young girls' hearts'
(Don't break no hearts)

But you came and stood right by me
Just a smell of sweet perfume
This happened much too soon
She called me to her room

Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that
I am the one
But the kid is not my son
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no

Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that
I am the one
But the kid is not my son
No, no
She says I am the one
(Oh, babe)
But the kid is not my son

He, he, he
Hoo!
Hoo!

She says I am the one
But the kid is not my son
No, no, no
Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that
I am the one
(You know what you did to me, babe)
But the kid is not my son
No, no, no, no
No, no

She says I am the one
But the kid is not my son

No, no

She says I am the one
You know what you did
She says he is my son
Breaking my heart, babe
She says I am the one

Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover

Freddie and I had discussions about it for hours, I won't bother you with it all and it took me some time so see, but in short it could be possible that he means this by it:

'His eyes were like mine', 'But the kid is not my son'. So the kid is Mike himself.

Oh, I know Beatles made the song first but Michael chose to sing it for SOME reason. But as I said, my theory was far-fetched.

But I do think that this whole thing was in the back of his mind quite early. I mean the cover of Dangerous album is very interesting and little hints could be found in many places. But I do admid that some of us might exaggarate things a BIT ;)

Michael had sense in all his songs. He wrote some sense and awareness to people, to give people hope.

Smooth Criminal - Moonwalker version.
(search on youtube) Strange text.
