Hollywood “Accidents”
November 11, 2021, 06:33:24 PM
So making a movie is meant to be amazing and safe………..
WRONG!
With the recent events during the filming of “Rust”, it got me thinking about other famous Hollywood movie mishaps and accidents!
I’m gonna name a few
“The Wizard of Oz” (1939) the movie had many accidents but the one that sticks out to me is Margaret Hamilton nearby being burned alive while filming her exit from Munchkinland.
“Ben-Hur” 1959, it’s an urban legend that a stuntman was killed while filming the famous chariot race.
“The Conqueror” (1956) - a John Wayne western. However the film was shot near a nuclear test site. Of the 220 crew/cast members, 91 developed cancer in their lifetime.
And we come to the big one……..
“The Twilight Zone: The Movie” (1983) this film will go down in history because of the fatal (and I’ve seen the footage) and HORRIFIC accident that befel 3 of the actors.
The film is an anthology based on the classic Rod Serling TV series. The first story is about a bigot that is confronted with various historical events. One of them is set during Vietnam. During the filming of the segment (also directed by John Landis of THRILLER fame) on July 23, 1982, at around 2:30 a.m., actor Vic Morrow and child actors Myca Dinh Le (age 7) and Renee Shin-Yi Chen (Chinese: 陳欣怡; pinyin: Chén Xīnyí, age 6) died in an accident involving a helicopter being used on the set. The two child actors were hired in violation of California law, which prohibits child actors from working at night or in proximity to explosions, and requires the presence of a teacher or social worker. During the subsequent trial, Landis denied culpability for the accident, but admitted that their hiring was "wrong"
What happened on the set of RUST, isnt an isolated incident……..

And then we have The Crow also, where Branon Lee was fatally shot on set, just like what happened in Rust.
