No Farrah or Bea but Mike gets a mention????
March 08, 2010, 01:09:18 AM
I CANNOT beLIEVE Farrah Fawcett and Bea Arthur were slated in the Oscar Memoriam. I am not surprised Mike got a mention, but they should have taken him out and slipped these two in. OUTRAGED :!:

I agree! I am a huge MJ fan but he is a MUSICIAN, yeah he was in Wizard of Oz & did soundtracks but Bea Arthur has been around FOREVER & Farah Fawcett?!! I mean come on, they are actually Actresses & well known ones who have done a lot of movies & tv. I can't believe they were left out. This was an awards show for ACTORS & ACTRESSES, for Movies. I honestly feel, & people don't get mad at me, that MJ was put in because he has been left out of all the music ones or something like that, he was also in the In Memorium for the SAG awards too, another awards show for ACTORS & ACTRESSES. Something is definitely going on there, why is it that he's left out of all the music awards In Memoriums yet he's mentioned in both the actors awards? I also feel that maybe Bea & Farah could have been left out on purpose to show that MJ being left out wasn't a big deal that it happens all the time, I mean they had a JOURNALIST in the Oscar memorium?! But no Bea or Farah? Also at the end of it, they showed the same people a second time? But no time for 2 very famous actresses?! Something is up with that.

I find it interesting, that TMZ had an extra report about this but not about MIchael missing in the memoriam list of the grammys...hm

OKAY, EVERBODY! THAT\'S A WRAP!

OMG! I thought the same thing! I was watching, waiting to see if they would show him...and they DID!?!?!?! But i thought he's a musician......music industry, NOT movie industry...sure he did short films/videos, but MJ is def not associated with the movie industry!!! No mention of Farrah Fawcett either! wow, good catch! What in the world is going on???? When they showed him, they showed a snippet of Thriller music vid and The Wiz....I was actually watchin the Wiz on the Gospel Music Channel channel at the same time, flipping back and forth....it came on twice in a row during the Oscars....this is so strange.....

I just posted this on the other Oscar thread, but I'll post here as well.

Oscar's 'In Memoriam': Where was Farrah?

The "In Memoriam" section has become an awards show staple: tasteful music played under images of the past year's notable dearly departed in that particular industry.

There will always be disagreements over the length of the piece, who rated highest on the "death-meter" with the most applause, the music (I'm a huge James Taylor fan, but I heard from people who thought his rendition of "In My Life" was inappropriate or otherwise off) ... and most of all, who is included and who is left out.

This year, the last strains of James' guitar were still lingering and the Oscar telecast had barely gone to commercial when I started hearing from friends: "Where was Farrah Fawcett?"

The Academy's reaction to the avalanche of criticism that followed was predictable, and reasonable: they can't include everybody.

That said, presumably there are standards to determine who makes the cut and who doesn't.  Obviously, fame is one of those criteria.  On the other hand, the Oscar death roll always includes executives, writers, directors, and other less-famous folk who had significant film industry roles, so obviously there's a balance to be struck.  For instance, Bea Arthur did almost exclusively television, with just a few movie credits in her six-decade career, so it made sense that the Emmys saluted her last fall, but the Oscars did not.

That brings us to (deep breath ... bracing for hate mail from his fans ...) Michael Jackson.  His death last June, just a few hours after Fawcett's, overshadowed hers in the news, and now it seems it's happened again.  Yes, Farrah was known largely for "Charlie's Angels" and such TV movies as "The Burning Bed," but she was in plenty of movies, including "Dr. T. and the Women," "The Apostle," "Man of the House," "See You In The Morning," "Extremities," "The Cannonball Run," "Saturn 3" and "Logan's Run."  Okay, maybe some of those films were better candidates for the Razzies than the Oscars, but let's consider Jackson's big-screen credits: "The Wiz," "This Is It," and... um... that "Men in Black II" cameo.  Suddenly, Farrah's list looks a lot better.

I agree with you, maybe someone is trying to make an statement. Let's see, we have the Grammy awards that are a MUSIC show and the biggest music star of all time is left out of the In memoriam stuff, and then we have the Oscar awards which are MOVIE INDUSTRY and MJ gets mentioned but Farrah, an ACTRESS doesn't. Maybe this is related to someone's comment, sorry I don't remember right now who said it, that MJ is the biggest actor of his time (or something of the kind).

What channels have you been watching? Michael was not left out of the Grammys,The American Music Awards, and MTV Awards,The EMMYs,the NAACP Awards,The BET Awards,or the Soul Train Awards. They all honored, mentioned and paid tribute in some fashion to him,I watched all of them, just to make sure. They did not forget Michael.
