Maybe it's not the Jacksons or specifically MJ that has mafia connections, maybe the people who work for him & around him have the connections. Maybe they are the fishy ones creating the debt for him with these Mafia people. Wasn't there someone who he works with that has mafia connections? I forgot who but it was discussed on this forum.

Yes you are right.  It may not be MJ with the connections, but rather the people around him do. All Good Entertainment for example has a very close connection to the Gambino/Gotti family.
