Ed Chernoff on Good Morning America

  • on: April 05, 2010, 09:41:05 PM
Conrad Murray will be interviewed on Good Morning America in the Morning.  I just saw an advertisement on tv for the show.  It must be an inpromptu interview. They are hinting that he will talk about his defense...saying Michael Jackson gave himself the lethal dose of propophol.

Sorry for the misinformation:  It was Ed Chernoff that was interviewed.  I do not know how to upload the video  so if someone could help that would be great!

Spoiler warning:  The interview will probably make you angry.

We should watch to see if he mimic's another Michael interview. I wonder how much he's being paid? What could he possibly say that his lawyers will allow?

My sentiments exactly.  All CM is trying to do is use the media to sway the general public against MJ. I am so tired of all the lies! :(  Applehead, I love you no matter what, my baby! ;)

I don't think that OJ's attorney or Michael's attorney's went non a talk show.  Should'nt their be a gag order.
Once everyone here's his story, there will not be anyone around to be a juror as they will have all made up their minds, in Murray's favor.  This is ridiculous !!!!

Just watched the vid.  The attorney has a point.  If the only way Murray can win this case is by saying negative things about Michael and his drug habits, then that is what Murray and his attorney will do.  It's very possible Mike's name is going to get raked through the mud all over again.  And here we go, all over again...

'GMA' Exclusive: Conrad Murray's Lawyer Speaks Out
Ed Chernoff: Cops Rushed to Blame, Reports Conrad Murray Delayed 911 Call a 'Bold-Faced Lie'

By MIKE VON FREMD, KAITLYN FOLMER & LEE FERRAN
April 6, 2010

The attorney for Michael Jackson's doctor, Conrad Murray, today aggressively contested media reports -- based on a leaked witness report -- that Murray attempted to hide evidence and delayed calling 911 as Jackson lay dying and said investigators rushed to implicate Murray in the star's death.

"It's just a bold-faced lie," Ed Chernoff said in an exclusive interview with "Good Morning America" that aired today. "[The] doctor called 911 as soon as he could… Let me just say, unequivocally, he did not – he was not cleaning up any bottles… The scene was not consistent with anyone trying to clean something up."

Chernoff said Murray did not immediately call 911 because there was no house phone in the room where Jackson was and he could not leave his patient to make the call.

Murray stands accused of administering the lethal dose of a powerful sedative that killed the pop superstar. He pleaded not guilty to manslaughter in February.

Chernoff said his client isn't responsible for the star's death, and that police rushed to blame someone.

"Let's say that this extremely famous, worldwide personality like Michael Jackson was found dead under unusual circumstances such as this. And the police came out and said, 'We've investigated and we just, we can't really put the blame on anybody at this point.' What do you think would happen then?" Chernoff said. "I think there was a tremendous amount of pressure to find somebody to blame. I think that was Dr. Murray… I think, my personal opinion, a conclusion was made and the investigation was conducted in order to back it up."

When asked about Chernoff's claim that police bowed to public pressure and blamed Conrad the Los Angeles Police Department told ABC News its investigation is continuing.

Murray appeared in court Monday for a preliminary hearing in which a California judge could have stripped him of his license to practice medicine, but did not.

"Well I mean the doctor had a good day," Chernoff said. "I think that was stressing him out more than anything else, was his ability to keep going, taking care of patients..."

Murray told investigators he gave Jackson the drugs Propofol, Lidocaine, Ativan and Versed during the early hours of June 25, 2009, according to an unsealed affidavit.

He also told detectives that he left the room after he gave Jackson a final dose of Propofol, before he returned to the room to find that Jackson had stopped breathing, according to the affidavit. Jackson was pronounced dead later that day at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Chernoff did not offer an alternative chain of events, but said such a scenario doesn't equate to responsibility.

"If the prosecution's theory is that Dr. Murray injected a bunch of drugs into Michael Jackson, walked out of the room and he died as a result, that's absolutely false," he said. "Dr. Murray is not guilty of causing the death of Michael Jackson. Period."

Is it not enough to SAY something bad about Mike - Murray has to prove his allegations!
And he has to PROVE that Michael injected himself! This is impossible! How can you prove this?

I highly doubt MJ injected himself. No way in a million yrs he would do that.

IF....and thats a big IF, he did die, then someone else injected him while Murray was out of the room and then they removed the security tapes so they wouldnt be seen doing it and then blamed Murray.

This would also explain Murray saying he just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The security tapes would benefit him if his story were true.
Well, somewhat benefit him.
He'd still be guilty of negligence or malpractice of some sort.

My thoughts exactly!  Where are those missing security tapes??

Chernoff said that the LAPD botched Murray's case... this whole thing sounds familiar.  Don't police plant evidence all the time?  Wasn't the crime scene corrupted because family members had been in and out of Michael's rented home after his "death" and before the investigation?  There's such a mob mentality all over the net, people are saying that Murray should be convicted or burn in hell without knowing what happened.  Now if they're going to agrue that Michael injected himself with propofol, we know that's bs.  However, many fans have alluded to Sony or AEG being behind this... if that's true then why are they calling for Murray's head.  Why are they calling for the head of the fall guy?

For the fans, it's easier to "prove"/convict Murray in this case than the other parties involved in this huge conspiracy (shady attorneys, Sony, etc.).  Unfortunately, Murray's the one who's going to court right now, not the other parties. He's just the scapegoat.  But the fans know he is not the root of the issue.  They are quite aware of the bigger issues.

Well, the sad thing is, he doesn't have to prove this.  He just has to plant a seed of doubt and the jury can find him not guilty.  That is *might* be plausible that MJ injected himself.   If any of the 12 can say, well, perhaps it might have happened that way...

And you know they will try and bring in all the stuff over the years of using pain medication.  And that MJ addmitted in the past having a problem with this.

They will do whatever it takes to prove doubt in the minds of the jury.

well, I gotta say..nice tie...

Isn't it usual for a doctor under suspicion of homicide to be suspended until such time as a trial may or may not take place and then only allowed to continue practicing medicine if he is found not guilty?

From your mouth to God's ears.  I am praying that this is a hoax.  Because if not, I think he will get off.  Like other people said above, it could have been anybody going in the room.  Not necessarially MJ.  It all is looking really bad, before the trial even begins.

But on the other side of that, isn't that what is to be expected if it is a hoax?  I never believed that MJ would allow CM to do time for killing him.  This would put him in the clear for a BAM day.

And interesting that the trial or whatever the next phase of this show, is falling in June?  ;) Those of you in the U.S. and remember the old Church lady on SNL, "How conveeenient"

This is why Michael's family is so pissed.  They don't understand a) why his license wasn't suspended and b) why Murray has only been charged with Manslaughter and not 2nd Degree Murder.

This is why the Los Angeles Civil Rights Association (LACRA) is also getting involved.  This whole thing makes you wonder who's protecting who in this case.

I highly doubt MJ injected himself. No way in a million yrs he would do that.

IF....and thats a big IF, he did die, then someone else injected him while Murray was out of the room and then they removed the security tapes so they wouldnt be seen doing it and then blamed Murray.

This also goes against the autopsy report that says it's not consistent with self injection. More cover up and lies at the expense of Michael. I'm not buying it any more than I did when he was accused of child molestation. Rubbish.

 dana carvey, right! priceless! i remember old mtv days when this show was played here, too. looong time ago...goes to show how 'old' i am...

about the 'other' people in the house: how come there was never any mention about how many staff people were actually there. from what i get over here (german news + mainly internet), all i could say would be the chef, maybe 3 bodyguards, dr. murray, the nanny and the kids. i remember hearing from the chef that 'all staff members' were dismissed that day but never a mention of the number of people.
is there any info i might have missed how many people were actually mike's daily staff, or present at that time? how come none of them has showed up yet? the chef made statements, were the other ones supposed to disappear never to be seen again?
wouldn't they also have to be called as witnesses?

regarding ed's 'interview': he looks like the kind of lawyer my parents always warned me of. upper class, always grinning, too self assured, cigar smoking prick! he 'intends' to win on 'evidence' based on the smoke he's blowing out himself.

Jackson Investigation Reportedly Centers on 5 Doctors

A Prescription Database May Offer More Clues About Doctors' Role in Jackson's Drug Use

By RICHARD ESPOSITO, VIC WALTER, DAN CHILDS and CHRISTINA CARON

July 5, 2009

The heat is on for several of Michael Jackson's former doctors.

The Los Angeles Times is now reporting that investigators are focusing on at least five doctors who prescribed drugs to Michael Jackson. Cherilyn Lee says Michael Jackson asked her for a powerful sleep aid.

Citing anonymous sources in law enforcement, the Los Angeles Times also reported that investigators found some prescription bottles in Jackson's home that had Jackson pseudonyms, as well as other bottles without labels. None reportedly had official prescription labels.

In the meantime, California Attorney General Jerry Brown has joined the investigation into Michael Jackson's death. The Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement is currently searching the Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System (CURES), a database Brown says will be a critical part of the investigation. Employees will search for aliases as they help investigate Jackson's death, Brown told the AP.

The state database keeps track of which controlled substances are dispensed, the strength of those drugs, the quanitity, and to whom they are prescribed.

California doctors and pharmacies are required to report to the California Department of Justice every prescription that they write for tightly controlled drugs with a high potential for abuse.

CURES was instrumental during the Anna Nicole Smith case when the California Department of Justice conducted a two-year probe assisted by the Drug Enforcement Administration. Ultimately, Howard K. Stern, Smith's lawyer and longtime companion, as well as Khristine Eroshevich and Sandeep Kapoor, two of Smith's doctors, were arraigned earlier this year on charges of conspiracy to unlawfully prescribe a controlled substance and to prescribe, administer or dispense a controlled substance to an addict. They all denied the charges.

"What we have in this case is a conspiracy among three individuals," Attorney General Brown said during a March news conference on the Smith case. "Howard K. Stern is the principal enabler. Dr. Eroshevich and Dr. Kapoor are prescribing drugs excessively to a known addict and using false and fictitious names, all in violation of the law."

Brown said the case is expected to come to trial later this year.

Propofol, Also Known as Diprivan, Found in Jackson's HomeLaw enforcement sources have told ABC News they discovered the powerful sedative propofol in the home where pop icon Michael Jackson's suffered a fatal cardiac arrest last month.

The drug was just one of many among the pharmacopeia found in his Holmby Hills home. Officials have previously said that they believe the star was addicted to a daily dose of the pain medications OxyContin and Demerol and that Jackson was injected with Demerol shortly before his death June 25.

A lawyer for Dr. Conrad Murray, Jackson's personal physician, said the doctor had prescribed neither OxyContin nor Demerol to the pop icon. He has not commented on Diprivan.

Some of the findings appear to confirm reports by those close to Jackson, 50, that the singer had been abusing prescription drugs. On July 1, Los Angeles registered nurse and nutritionist Cherilyn Lee, who worked for Michael Jackson, came forward to saythe pop star begged her to help him obtain the drug in the days before he died.

The drug -- also known by the brand name Diprivan -- is most often used to sedate patients before a medical procedure, but it is also one that palliative care workers have been known to administer to terminal patients who are in pain or who have weeks or days to live.

Lee said during a call from a Jackson staffer she heard Jackson in the background requesting the sedative.

"He said, 'Find me an anesthesiologist. I don't care how much money they want. find me an anesthesiologist to be with me here overnight and give me this IV,'" she said.

Jackson, Lee said, said he was in extreme discomfort, was desperate for sleep and said that one side of his body was hot and the other side cold.

Lee said she wasn't familiar with the drug when he first asked for it three months ago, but after consulting with a doctor, she warned Jackson it could kill him.

"'I look at you Michael and I've been around you long enough now, I love you as family. I would not give this to anyone,'" Lee said she told Jackson. "I said, 'This is not a safe medicine, please don't take this.'" Pain specialists told ABC News that home use of the risky drug would be highly unusual, since it's ordinarily given in a hospital setting due to its health risks. Obtaining propofol with a simple prescription is next to impossible. "Propofol has no place in a household," said Dr. Lloyd Saberski, a Yale University anesthesiologist and editor in chief of the journal The Pain Clinic. "This alone is a deviation, and many laws were likely violated just to get the propofol there." Moreover, an injection of the drug requires that someone be present to continually administer it intravenously, said Dr. Howard Nearman, chairman of the anesthesiology department at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland.

Nearman said there "absolutely" had to be a second party with Jackson if indeed he was using the drug to sleep. Whether or not propofol was in Jackson's system at the time of his death will only be answered with the release of the pop star's autopsy results, which the Los Angeles County coroner's office has said will take weeks.

Propofol Known as 'Milk of Amnesia'The potency of Propofol as an anesthetic is widely known; in anesthesiology circles, the drug, a white liquid, is termed "milk of amnesia" by some. "Propofol is an agent that requires very close monitoring and is often limited only to use by anesthesiologists," said Dr. Richard Page, head of cardiology at the University of Washington medical center. "The main issue with this agent is respiratory depression, which in turn could cause cardiac arrest." "It is a very dangerous drug," said Dr. Brian Olshansky, a cardiologist at the University of Iowa who said he often uses the drug to place patients in deep sedation for certain heart procedures. "It is not for sleep. I cannot imagine anyone would use this outside a very regulated environment such as the availability of emergency respiratory equipment."

Propofol Poses Dangers to Abusers

One main reason for this, he said, is the speed with which the drug has its effect. "It rapidly induces unconsciousness and apnea," Olshansky said. "People stop breathing within seconds of being given the drug."

These characteristics of the drug make it an exceedingly unusual choice for abuse, said Dr. Jeff Guy of Vanderbilt University, who said such a situation would represent "a quantum leap in the issue of substance abuse." But despite the effects and risk profile of the drug, Nearman said that patients who've had the drug describe it as inducing "a very pleasant sleep" that "has the potential to be habit-forming." And Dr. Bruce Goldberger, chief of forensic pathology at the University of Florida, noted that the drug "also acts as an aphrodisiac in men -- it has been reported that men have very vivid sexual dreams while under Propofol anesthesia.

Federal, Local Officials Continue Investigation

The discovery of the drugs in Jackson's home marks a point at which federal agents had begun to define their role in the Michael Jackson death probe and shape their team which would work to assist the Los Angeles Police Department. The LAPD robbery and homicide division is the lead agency on the case, and the Drug Enforcement Administration's Diversion Division is assisting. ABC News' Roger Sergel contributed to this report.

MJ alive and well thats what and probs helping to set the scene  ;)    they are missing for 1 of 2 reasons and i firmly believe that MJ removed them himself especially since there is no trace of them   :D

Murray not guilty!!! Give me a break !  Giving him Proprofyl and 4 other meds in a course of 1 night, that is crazy!!  He had no business giving him all of those drugs mixed with Proprofyl.  When i went into surgery the doctors asked me 3 times what medications  I had taken and if I had taken some, they would postpone my surgery.  Yet DR. Greedy ass gives MJ 4 others meds, and Proprofyl together and he is claiming he did nothing wrong ! this is ridiculous !
Strip him of his medical license now, arrest his ass, put that fool in prison, where he belongs.
Oh yeah, don't put him min solitary confinement put him with the general public.  I am sure MJ has lots of
fans who are serving time in prison.

MJ fans: Prepare for the Blame the Victim Defense
Source: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/johnny-be ... 26598.html

Make no doubt about it. Conrad Murray (I will not do further damage to the profession of medicine by using his disgraced title) and his group of hired guns, otherwise known as defense attorneys, will sink to even lower depths as they try to save his freedom. For the record: I do not disparage all attorneys, only those that like their client will do anything for a buck. Or more correctly a lot of bucks.

When a perpetrator has no reasonable defense and nearly all hope is gone there is always one last desperate play: blame the victim.

I raped her cause she wanted it. The child had no loving father figure and wanted me to touch them. I only did it because I love her...She made me hit her. We've all heard it before and the world is very likely to hear it again when the victim, Michael Jackson, is put on trial instead of Conrad Murray.

The defense will spare no expense, truth or civility in their attempt to paint a very dark portrait of MJ the 'hopelessly addicted junkie' and probably far worse. They will add further spice as they include just a pinch of past troubles and allegations that have little if anything to do with his death. They will do their best to divert the attention away from their client and refocus the trial on the 'deeply troubled life of desperate man' that accidentally killed himself.

I pray (as a physician) that at the end of the day one question will be answered. Was it the reasonable standard of care in Los Angeles for a doctor to administer a powerful general anesthesia drug to a person in their bedroom that consequently caused the person (an alleged 'hopelessly addicted junkie or not) to die? Or was the doctor practicing sub-standard medicine, outside the scope of his training, in an inappropriate and insufficiently monitored setting?

Your CAPS kill me..sorry :-(
I am in agreement here about this statement:
Chernoff said Murray did not immediately call 911 because there was no house phone in the room where Jackson was and he could not leave his patient to make the call.

This was quite freaking dumb of Chernoff to say when it is on every media's lips and pages that Conrad Murray was on the PHONE when he found Michael..ON THE PHONE Chernoff! I hope a jury can see that the lawyer's statements, made here in public are a complete fabrication of why Conrad Murray would not have called 911 earlier.

If MJ is dead (and sorry I can't smile and laugh like the rest of you when it remains possible) he should have called 911 immediately unless there is more to the story.

You know what? I think someone should make up T-Shirt with Chernoff's statements at the top and the on the phone statements at the bottom, so the world can see how guilty that makes them both look.

A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is just putting on its shoes.
