Makes me think of "Snow White"

You know...she has white skin, she eats the red apple, then she's "dead", sleeping in a glass coffin, and then she gets back !

Michael, please can I be The Prince ?

Yes, nice idea,  whatyourheartsays.

I think the "wheelchair-disguise" was kind of copying Elizabeth Taylor`s - successful - attempt to reach public/press`s attention (for whatever reason).

And I also believe that - at the time - he was not really bothered by paparazzi at all. He`d led a rather private life off the spotlight and has not been   t h a t   much news for gossip/celebrity reports any more.

But it worked - he  g o t   attention ....

MHO.

Demise of the King of PopFrom EMILY SMITH
In Las Vegas

ONCE the undisputed King of Pop, here frail MICHAEL JACKSON is reduced to using a wheelchair as he approaches his half century.

In his prime ... JackoThe singer, who turns 50 on August 29, appears fragile and gaunt as he is wheeled by a minder to a Las Vegas bookshop while wearing pyjamas and slippers.

Jacko hides behind shades, a hat, black scarf and surgical mask, his thin frame visible through the cotton trousers and his pale hands the only part of his body on show.

One onlooker said: "There are constant rumours of a Michael Jackson comeback but it was shocking to see that in reality he is a shadow of his former self.

"He seemed too weak even to get out of the chair to cross the road himself. He stayed in the store for two hours and wheeled himself around in the chair the whole time.

"The skin on his hands was peeling, almost like a snake's. He kept his mask on all the time. His security man was at his side and nobody approached him. It is really sad."

Big hits ... MadonnaJacko was seen reading in the kids' section with his children, Prince Michael, 11, Paris Katherine, ten, and five-year-old Prince Michael II, alias Blanket.

Finally Jacko picked out a box full of books and CDs before his minder paid for them and wheeled him out of the shop.

Sources say the singer often goes out in a wheelchair when he is too weak to walk.

One said: "He has days when he is fine but others when he feels listless and too weak to walk. Then he calls for the wheelchair.

"Usually on those days he also refuses to get dressed, spending all day in his pyjamas."

While Jacko's contemporary, MADONNA, prepares to celebrate her 50th with a hit album and blockbuster global tour, Wacko has been beset by personal problems and is in tatters.

He claims he has been working on a new album, teaming up with producers including the BLACK EYE PEAS' WILL.I.AM and impresario SIMON FULLER.

Yet fans are yet to hear even the hint of a new single or any comeback shows.

The troubled star has also battled an addiction to prescription drugs which started during his child molestation trial in 2005.

He was cleared of all charges but Jacko struggled with a fear of facing the public and turned to painkillers dished out by his private nurse.

The star is also believed to be £170million in debt and recently sold his Neverland Ranch.

The source added: "Jacko is struggling for money and needs to work.

"There's huge interest in a comeback, but there are doubts that Jacko can pull it off. He isn't strong enough - mentally or physically."

Michael Jackson - the man who blew a billion. The mind-boggling spending of the world's wackiest pop star
By Alison Boshoff

Quote
He had been due in the High Court in London today, accused by an Arab sheik who claimed he frittered away £4.6m on ice creams, toys, Body Shop lotions - and a Ferrari.
But as he settles out of court to avoid the potentially humiliating scene, the full extent of Michael Jackson's compulsive spending can be revealed.

Michael Jackson had been due in the High Court accused of owing an Arab sheik £4.6million but has now reached an out-of-court settlement
He had been due to take the stand this afternoon.

People on his team had said he wouldn't be in a wheelchair or a surgical mask, but in a suit and shades and looking  -  as far as possible  -  like a 'regular guy'.

Still, it's fair to say that Room 73 of the High Court in London would not have seen anything like it.

Michael Jackson, the 50-year-old king of pop, defending himself against an Arab sheik claiming that Jacko owes him £4.6million.

The Jackson circus had been due to arrive yesterday.

The singer and his children were understood to have been planning to fly in to Luton Airport by private jet and were reportedly booked into the Dorchester Hotel with his permanent detail of five bodyguards at around £7,000 a night.

Then last night came dramatic news that Jackson had reached an out-of-court deal to avoid a potentially humiliating showdown.

A spokesman said: 'As Mr Jackson was about to board his plane to London, he was advised by his legal team to postpone his travels since the parties had concluded a settlement in principle. Therefore, he will not be attending court on Monday.'

The world had been hoping to see what has become of Jackson, who has essentially been a recluse since his 2005 trial for child molestation.

It was thought he was living in Las Vegas, behind the gates of a 20-room suburban mansion.

There were stories that he remained hopelessly hooked on painkillers and alcohol and spent most of his days lying in bed.

Some said he had been laid low by the autoimmune condition lupus. In recent months, he has missed a string of planned music industry events and he didn't show up in public on his 50th birthday during the summer.
Michael Jackson poses with Sheik Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, in August 2005 who is believed to have financed Jackson through difficult times
There was talk that he was in 'too much of a mess' to be honoured at an industry gala recently  -  and who could forget his disastrous 'performance' of just four lines of We
Are The World at the World Music Awards in 2006?

Yet the Mail has learned he has rented a new house in Los Angeles and has even been out and about socially.

At Hallowe'en, he went to a celebrity party with Gregory Peck's widow, Veronique, a trusted friend. The three children, Prince, Paris and Blanket, attended. His hostess, singer Natalie Maines, said he was too frightened to make social chit-chat and spent his time surrounded by bodyguards.

So what is the truth about Jackson's life? And what is the truth about his finances and his health?

He would undoubtedly like to escape the scrutiny of the world on both counts. Brian Oxman, the Jackson family attorney, insisted to me last week that the singer was genuinely sick.

He said: 'I spoke to his sister LaToya just yesterday and she said that Michael is feeling under the weather. He sat through his whole trial in 2005 with serious back and leg pain. He did not complain and he fulfilled all of his legal responsibilities, which I would expect him to do again.'

It is believed Michael Jackson is living in Las Vegas where he has been seen out and about with his children
Jackson certainly displays a great deal of frailty. He is troubled by pain in his joints and recurring spasms in his back.

He is very thin, at times just seven stone, and seldom seems to eat anything other than biscuits and gravy, a Southern speciality.

Added to this, he remains in some post-operative distress  -  after four rhinoplasty operations, it is said that he struggles to breathe through what is left of his nose.

Then there is his emotional state. The prospect of sitting across the courtroom from Sheik Abdullah Bin Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa would undoubtedly have distressed him.

It would have brought stark reminders of the 2005 trial which effectively destroyed him, even though he was cleared of all charges of abusing Gavin Arvizo, a teenage boy who stayed with him at his Neverland estate.

Jackson emerged from Santa Barbara court a hollow-eyed wreck, hooked on the painkiller Demerol, and feeling violated after details of, among other things, his collection of pornography were globally aired.

This time, attention would have centred on what he has done with all his money.

The sheik, who is the second son of the King of Bahrain, said Jackson reneged on a recording deal and owes him £4.6million.

Jackson, who stayed with the prince for six months after his 2005 trial, insisted the money was a gift and he owes him nothing.

The prince, who claimed to have stumped up for everything from a motivational therapist to a £3.79 tub of Haagen Dazs ice cream, £200 worth of Body Shop lotions and pampering products to toys and a Ferrari, said Jacko promised to pay him back.

It would have been a fascinating case, giving an insight into Jackson's life of extreme luxury, matched in scale only by eccentricity and reckless spending.

The sheik first gave him £23,000 to meet utility bills for Neverland after Jackson let him know he was so far in debt that he could not pay them.

Then Jackson asked for a further £66,000 the next month, again to pay some bills, followed by £1.45 million to pay his legal fees.

Did it not occur to Jackson, with whom the sheik was setting up a music label and who was recording songs penned by the sheik,  that this money would need to be repaid if the association ended?

Jackson stayed with the son of the king of Bahrain for six months after his 2005 trial. Michael believes the money given to him by was a gift
His barrister, Robert Englehart QC, said in court last week: 'Jackson is not exactly an astute businessman, is he?'

That would have formed the essence of Jackson's defence: that he is a creative, vulnerable man who was emotionally battered at the time he met the sheik and got pressured into a business relationship.

Fox journalist Roger Friedman, who is a leading authority on Jackson, has a more hostile version of events.

'For one year, the prince underwrote Jackson's life in Bahrain  -  everything including living accommodation, guests, security and transportation.

'And what did Jackson do? He left for Japan and then Ireland. He took the money and moonwalked right out the door. This is the real Michael Jackson. He has never returned a phone call from the prince since he left Bahrain.'

Earlier this month, Jackson sold his Neverland estate. It was a complex deal which saw the deed of the property-sold to another company, which he partly controls.

Some say that he did this to protect Neverland from the sheik's clutches, should he have won the case. But Jackson is in a financial mess and the Neverland saga  -  of which more later  -  just seems to illustrate how powerless he is to control his assets.

He should, of course, be one of the wealthiest men in the world. Not only is he the most successful recording artist in history, he also owns The Beatles' back catalogue, which ought to bring him around £35million a year.

But, actually, he's the King of Debts. The story of how he blew around a billion dollars is a salutary and rather depressing one, full of lawyers, defaults, countersuits and a spend, spend, spend mentality.

The joke with Jackson is that he's a millionaire who lives like a billionaire.

In court in Santa Barbara, it was said that he was spending between £13million and £20million a year more than he was earning.

His life at present is comparatively modest. Jackson is living full-time in Los Angeles.

He has been out only a handful of times, mostly to bookshops and comic-book stores.
He sees a handful of trusted friends, and tells people that he is recording music once again.

Since staying with the prince Jaclson has not been in touch with him or repaid any of the money given. The pair were setting up a music label and recording songs
I'm told he has revived his association with Frank DiLeo, who was his manager 25 years ago and the only one to stick with him during the molestation trial.

Jackson greeted him with tears and hugs when he saw him in the courtroom. DiLeo is supposed to be putting out feelers to various music producers on his behalf.

His children are his entire focus and he often says they are his only reason for living. Now aged 11, ten and six, they are schooled at home.

The nanny whom they called 'Mom', Grace Rwaramba, has been off the scene for the past year after developing lupus. ('Grace has lupus, not Michael,' says Oxman.)

She is living in some style in a penthouse in Las Vegas, presumably still on the Jackson shilling.

There is a large security team, plus the usual retinue of housekeepers and chauffeurs.

His staff bill is thought to top £2.5million a year. On top of this, he pays Debbie Rowe, the mother of Prince and Paris, £750,000 a year just to stay out of their lives.

And then there is his reckless spending, which makes Elton John look like an amateur.

People who have worked for him say that he often picks up a catalogue and orders everything in it.

Jackson sold his Neverland estate earlier this month to help settle debts
He will go into a shop and, in a 15-minute blitz, buy antiques worth hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Neverland cost £17million and turned out to be a money pit from the start, beginning with a Rolls-Royce he bought his laywer as a thank-you for closing the deal, and ending with the expense of resettling the giraffes and tigers from his zoo there.

He spent £100,000 on CCTV for Neverland and cheerfully blew the same amount on a recent shopping spree at Harrods.

A single payment for cream to treat his skin complaint, vitiglio, was £41,000. On top of this, he has been servicing gigantic debts at credit-card type rates of around 20 per cent a year.

Michael Jackson and his three children visit a bookstore near their Las Vegas home for late night shopping
The financial pickle is very complex and Jackson seems to have little desire to understand it.

The first indication of trouble came in 1995 when he made a complex deal to merge The Beatles' catalogue, which he had bought in 1984, with part of Sony's, with the ownership split between them.

That freed up £62million. But three years later it had all been spent  -  his attorney, John Branca, called a meeting with the Bank of America and admitted that, 15 years after releasing Thriller and after several extremely lucrative tours, Jackson was struggling to pay his bills.

One reason for the squeeze was that he had paid £16.5million to the family of Jordy Chandler  -  the boy who famously accused Jackson of molesting him  -  and still had to find another £2 million a year to maintain Neverland and pay its staff.

The Bank of America agreed to loan him £92 million, secured against his half-ownership of the Sony/ATV music catalogue, a massive earner which includes The Beatles' songs Yesterday and Hey Jude.

The loan ought to have sorted him out for years to come but, according to his former business manager Myung Ho Lee, it wasn't enough and had to be increased to £166million.

Further disasters followed  -  flurries of actions against him from former lawyers, managers and advisers over deals gone sour and unpaid invoices.

By last year, he owed at least £178million, and had defaulted on his Bank of America loan to the tune of £198,000.

Michael Jackson holds his son from a third floor balcony back in 2002
The Bank of America sold his debt on to a New York company, the Fortress Investment Group, which specialises in 'distressed' debt.

Again, that loan was defaulted and a date was set to auction Neverland. Then a group called Colony Capital bought the loan, and earlier this month Jackson filed a grant deed on the ranch that makes the new owner an entity called the Sycamore Valley Ranch Co.

Brian Oxman said the singer's woes were exaggerated: 'Michael is in excellent financial shape. We should all be so fortunate to have his problems. He has not sold Neverland, he has entered into a partnership to develop it. Develop it into what, I do not know, but it is a very exciting opportunity for him.'

Oxman said that Jackson has resettled in Los Angeles. 'Mrs Jackson, his mother, is thrilled to have him around, as are all the family, because she loves to spend time with her grandchildren. His children are growing up fast and Michael is very busy with them.'

That much is certainly true. In a telephone interview with Good Morning America earlier this year, he spoke movingly about them.

'I am letting them enjoy their childhood as much as possible,' he said. 'I let them go to the arcade and to the movies. I want them to do things I didn't get to do.'

Oxman added: 'He lives a pretty simple lifestyle these days. The extravagances are in the past and no one has really seen him because he is very low key. But he is happy and doing well.'

Perhaps. Somehow, though, that seems rather hard to believe.

Michael Jackson turns 50, shadow of a superstar
Fri Aug 29, 2008 11:35pm IST

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Singer Michael Jackson turned 50 on Friday, a shadow of the superstar once known as the "King of Pop" whose records thrilled millions before his bizarre personal life eclipsed his musical brilliance.

Unlike Madonna's 50th birthday bash and launch of another world tour earlier this month, the singer who wishes he was Peter Pan appears to have no special celebrations planned and a much-touted musical comeback has so far come to nothing.

A semi-recluse since his harrowing 2005 trial and acquittal on child sex abuse, Jackson has been living out of the spotlight for the past few months.

In a telephone interview with ABC television program "Good Morning America," Jackson said he will "just have a little cake with my children and watch some cartoons," and he added that he feels "very wise and sage, but at the same time very young."

Recent pictures of Jackson in Las Vegas showed him dressed in pajamas and slippers, and one had him sitting in a wheelchair, wearing a surgical mask.

Long-time Jackson family friend and lawyer Brian Oxman told Reuters the singer sometimes used the wheelchair to get around unobserved. "It is not an indication of any health problems. It is an effort to be unseen," he said.

Oxman added that for the 50th birthday, "no-one is planning anything special. He is just being quiet these days."

Billboard senior music analyst Geoff Mayfield saw nothing unusual in Jackson's low-key birthday. "I don't think our celebrities are real hot on how old they are getting. Why would a pop singer draw attention to the fact they are getting older?," Mayfield told Reuters.   Continued...

Quote
Jackson's record label Sony BMG launched a big overseas promotion to mark his half-century and a career that started with his brothers in The Jackson Five, when Michael was 11, and which produced the 1982 album "Thriller" -- still the world's biggest selling album and one of the most influential.

Fans in 11 countries, including Japan, Britain, the Netherlands, Germany and Australia where Jackson has his biggest following have voted on Web sites for their favorite songs that have been compiled on a "King of Pop" hits album being released on Friday.

Yet, a poll on AOL's pop culture news Web site PopEater.com suggested that Jackson's surgically-altered face, his financial problems, the shuttering of his "Neverland" fantasy ranch, and the fallout of the 2005 trial, risked overshadowing his musical achievements.

Some 49 percent said Jackson's bizarre behavior changed the way they viewed his classic hits of the 1980s, and 71 percent agreed there was "not a chance" of him making a comeback.

Jackson's last major public performance, in London in November 2006, fizzled out in disappointment when he sang only a few lines of an old song.

His last album of new music was "Invincible" in 2001, but the 25th anniversary reissue of "Thriller" this year has sold 635,000 copies in the U.S. alone and is one of the 30 best-selling albums of 2008.

Mayfield said that whatever the future holds for Jackson, he has made an indelible mark on pop music.

"To really still be in the conversation in terms of music sales decades after your career started is the exception not the norm," Mayfield said. "It is hard to imagine any album ever dominating the conversation as much as 'Thriller' did."

Oxman said that all stars go through difficult stages and he was hopeful that Jackson would yet resurrect his career. "We are anxious and waiting for him to do something," Oxman said.

Well, Heismypeterpan said on her twitter that Michael had tried to get out of doing ALL 50 shows, he only wanted to do the 10. So he was purposely trying to lose weight & anything else he could to fail the exam. They had manipulated him & he didn't want to do them. So maybe this whole trying to make the world think he is sick is part of that? Depending on how long ago the concerts were planned.

I agree with this, I have always thought that Michael lost weight to look like a sick man ;)
